Use

The search results are displayed in a list. To the left of the list, you can find a navigation area for further narrowing down the results.

The list is sorted by relevance, which is calculated based on the following factors:

  • Degree of match between the search team and the hit (from the exact character string to less exact matches)

  • Number of hits within an object (in documents or text fields proportional to the text length and frequency of other words)

An entry in the list corresponds to a business object or document and is structured as follows:

  • Image and title

The image is either an icon that illustrates the type of object found or a picture of the object, for example a photograph of a product. Depending on the object and the configuration, the title can be the document title, the material number, or the business partner name, for example.

  • Object type

The object type of the hit is displayed to the right of the title, for example marketing document or business partner.

  • Properties

Important properties of the object found are displayed below the title, for example the dimensions, price, and short description of a product.

    Note

The positions of the search terms in the property values or in texts are highlighted so that you can understand why an object was found.

  • Details and related actions

The links at the end of each entry allow you to display more details and, depending on the system configuration, related actions.

Procedure

You can perform the following actions in the results list and in the navigation area:

Action

Explanation

Narrow Down Hits

You can narrow down the results further by drilling down in the navigation area through the categories to the subcategories and then to individual object types. The results list changes as a consequence of each selection. Selected categories and object types are highlighted.

Note

The number of hits is shown in brackets in the navigation area and is an estimate rather than an exact number for performance reasons, so it may vary slightly depending on your selection.

You can choose Choose More... to open a dialog box in which you can see all categories or object types. You can make multiple selections here.

You can use the navigation area or the “BreadCrumb” above the results list to navigate back to the top.

Filter Hits

As soon as you have narrowed down the selection to objects with common properties, these properties and their values are displayed in the navigation area. You can click a value or a value range to filter results with these values, for example, all products that cost between €100 and €300.

Note

You can choose Choose more... to open a dialog box in which you see a complete list of all properties and their values, from which you can then choose.

You can set more than one filter, whereby the filter properties move up in the navigation area. To remove individual filters again, click the cross ( X). To remove all filters for a property, click the property. To remove the entire filter, click Remove All Filters.

Changing the Sort Order of the Results List

As soon as you have narrowed down the search to objects with common properties, you can choose Sort By in the header to sort the results by these properties instead of by relevance.

Note

If you choose a property, the results are sorted alphabetically or numerically by the values of this property, for example products from the highest to the lowest price. You can toggle between ascending and descending sort orders.

Scrolling in the Results List

You can use the arrows and Results per Page in the footer to scroll between the pages and change the number of results per page.

Note

To change the default setting for the number of results per page, choose Start of the navigation path Personalize Next navigation step Results Display Next navigation step Results per Page End of the navigation path

Displaying Details of an Object

You can use Details and Close Details to show and hide an area on the right-hand side that displays all important properties for the selected object and further information.

Note

The entry in the results list for which the details are displayed on the right-hand side, is marked by a colored bar.

Performing Actions on an Object

Clicking the title of a result launches an application to display or edit the business object or document.

Depending on your configuration, the links next to Details allow further actions, such as jumping to related objects, for example from business partners to their purchase orders.
