Creating and Editing Mappings and Mapping StepsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Mappings group together all field assignments and transformations that are required for filling an amount of target structures from an amount of source structures. Mappings consist of one or multiple mapping steps. Mapping steps divide the superordinate mapping into individual steps, that fill one target structure each. This means that at least as many mapping steps are required, as there are target structures.

Defining Package Groups

This IMG activity enables you to specify package groups that consist of one or multiple packages each. You can assign one package group to one mapping (see "Creating Mappings"). The input help (F4) for the transformation workbench displays only classes (transformations, conversions, and checks) that are contained in one of the packages indicated.

  1. In Customizing, choose Start of the navigation path Cross-Application Components Next navigation step Processes and Tools for Business Applications Next navigation step Enterprise Services Next navigation step Develop Enterprise Services Next navigation step Create and Edit Mappings Next navigation step Define Package Groups End of the navigation path

  2. The Package Group screen area shows package groups that you have already defined. To view the packages that make up the package group, highlight the line of the corresponding package group, then select the folder Packages.

  3. To create a new package group, choose Edit -> New Entries.

  4. Enter a name for the new package group.

  5. Highlight the line of the new package group, then select the folder Packages.

  6. Use F4 to choose the packages that you want to belong to the package group.

  7. Save your entries.

Creating Mappings

  1. In Customizing, choose Start of the navigation path Cross-Application Components Next navigation step Processes and Tools for Business Applications Next navigation step Enterprise Services Next navigation step Develop Enterprise Services Next navigation step Create and Edit Mappings Next navigation step Create and Edit Mappings End of the navigation path

  2. When you call up the Service Mapping Tool (SMT) for the first time, you have the choice of creating a mapping or opening an existing one. If you saved a mapping and then call up the SMT, the system always loads the one that was saved last.

  3. Click Mapping, then New.

  4. Enter the name and the package.

  5. Enter a description and assign a package group.

  6. If required, highlight Multiple Contexts (also see field help).

Creating Mapping Steps

  1. In the group box Mapping Steps, click Add. The system opens an entry box.

  2. Enter at least one description for the mapping step, then select a source and target structure.

  3. You can enter a change structure and additional structures, if required (see below).

  4. Click Save – The system saves the mapping and mapping step(s).

Editing Mappings and Mapping Steps

  1. Carry out steps 1 and 2 as described under "Creating Mappings".

  2. To edit the currently loaded mapping, click Edit and continue with step 6.

  3. To edit a different mapping, click Mapping, then Open.

  4. Select an existing mapping.

  5. Click Edit.

  6. To continue with editing, proceed as described under "Creating Mappings".

Importing Mapping Steps

It is possible to import mapping steps that you created for another mapping.

  1. You called up a mapping for editing.

  2. Click Import.

  3. In the wizard, select the mapping that contains the mapping steps that you want to import.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Select the mapping step you want to import.

  6. Select replacement structures.

  7. Click Next.

  8. The SMT displays the structures and the replacement fields (of the same name). If the system does not display the replacement fields automatically, you can choose fields using F4.

  9. Choose Finish.

Indicating Change Structure

  1. You selected a mapping step for editing.

  2. In column Change Structure, select a structure that has the field name as the target structure. With the exception of key fields, all fields must have the same data type (char 1 / length 1). The SMT sets the value "X" for the fields whose counterparts receive a value (even it it is initial) through a transformation.

  3. When you have selected a change structure, you can specify the key fields of the structure via Change Structure Key. The SMT sets the value "X" for the fields of the change structures, whose target counterparts receive a value. The key fields that you define in this section are an exception to this. The key fields of the change structure contain the same value as their target counterparts.

Indicating Additional Structures

  1. You selected a mapping step for editing.

  2. Click Additional Structures.

  3. In the selection window, you can choose a predecessor structure, an additional source structure, or both.

Predecessor structure: Name of the hierarchical predecessor structure of the source structure. If, for example, the source structure is an item structure, the predecessor is a header structure.

Predecessor structure n (n = 2 – 4): Name of the hierarchical predecessor structure of the predecessor structure n – 1.

Additional structures 1 – 20: Name of additional structures that are required for sending information, that is not part of the source structures, to the tool. You can use these additional structures as customizing structures, for example.

Checking the Customizing

This IMG activity performs a check report. The report carries out all the checks that occur during direct entry also. Use this check function after you have changed data types of structures or the signature of condition or transformation methods.

You can limit the check to one mapping.

If you do not indicate a mapping, the system checks the entire Customizing.

  1. In Customizing, choose Start of the navigation path Cross-Application Components Next navigation step Processes and Tools for Business Applications Next navigation step Enterprise Services Next navigation step Develop Enterprise Services Next navigation step Create and Edit Mappings Next navigation step Check Customizing End of the navigation path

  2. Choose a mapping, if required.

  3. Choose Execute.
