Use

The Remote Control and Communication Framework (RCCF) supports the calling, controlling, and logging of engines at external destinations. It also supports communication with these engines.

The RCCF is used to control the optimizers in SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (SAP APO) and SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM).

Prerequisites
  • If you want to define your engine servers, you have maintained the destinations in Customizing. While doing so, you have also checked whether the RFC destinations are correct.

For more information, see Customizing for SAP Business Suite Foundation under Start of the navigation path Cross-Application Components Next navigation step Processes and Tools for Enterprise Applications Next navigation step Remote Control and Communication Framework Next navigation step  Edit Destinations End of the navigation path.

  • You have entered any special parameters that you have been given by SAP Support or SAP Consulting into the system.

For more information, see Customizing for SAP Business Suite Foundation under Start of the navigation path Cross-Application Components Next navigation step Processes and Tools for Enterprise Applications Next navigation step Remote Control and Communication Framework Next navigation step  Make Settings for Experts End of the navigation path.

Features

The RCCF offers the following display transactions:

  • Log Display

Logs for individual engine runs are displayed in this transaction along with the following data:

    • Start time

    • Processor

    • Application information

    • Destination information

    • Profile information (only if the relevant application supports this)

Most applications offer the additional option to navigate from the log entry to the application and explanation log.

You can also download compressed data files for the engines to your computer in the log display.

  • Display Active Sessions

The current engine runs are displayed in this transaction along with information about the engine process, the processor, and the start time.

The current operating status of the engine run provides information about whether the entry is orphaned or whether it is still running.

You can delete orphaned engine runs. Examples of orphaned engine runs include engine runs that still exist in the application following a short dump.

You can exit engine runs in either a soft or hard way.

    • Soft

You exit the engine run. This can take a while since the system does not exchange this state until the next time it communicates with the engine. Most engines that are exited in this way return the data that was changed.

    • Hard

You exit the engine run process using the relevant operating system command.

  • Version Display

An overview of the engine versions that you have defined at the relevant destinations is displayed in this transaction. The creation date and the target platform (Operating System field) are also displayed here, for example.
