ICD-10

Definition

As announced by the Federal Ministry of Health, the switch to the ICD-10 diagnosis catalog came into effect on January 1st, 2001. Diagnoses for cases with an admission date after this date must comply with ICD-10.

This applies with the exception of patients who remain in hospital beyond the specified key date, who were admitted before the key date and discharged after it. The admission diagnoses for these cases must be encrypted according to ICD-9 (admission date) and the discharge diagnoses according to ICD-10 (discharge date).

You should therefore also maintain ICD-10 diagnoses for patients who remain in hospital beyond the specified key date. You have the following options:

  • You must also enter the ICD-10 key (entry in the fields at the bottom of the Diagnoses for Case/Department detail screen) for a diagnosis that is encrypted in accordance with ICD-9 (entry in the top diagnosis catalog and diagnosis key fields in the Diagnosis group box on the above screen).

  • To avoid having to make duplicate entries, you can enter the corresponding ICD-9 key in the reference field when importing the ICD-10 diagnosis catalog. If the reference diagnosis has been entered in the ICD-10 diagnosis catalog, the system automatically copies the ICD-9 key to the bottom field on the detail screen when you enter the ICD-10 diagnosis in the field at the top.

    Note Note

Carry out encryption in ICD-10 as early as possible, so that the system copies the ICD-9 keys automatically.

    End of the note.

Please note that the system determines the valid diagnosis catalog for admission diagnoses based on the admission date, and the catalog for discharge diagnoses from the discharge date (for example, in the case of LKF scoring).

Note Note

You can specify the parameter that controls which diagnosis catalog is valid in the Stats. Catalog field in Customizing for SAP Healthcare - Industry-Specific Components for Hospitals under Start of the navigation path Medical/Nursing Documentation Next navigation step Set Parameters for Diagnosis Documentation End of the navigation path .

End of the note.
