Organizational objects are uniquely identified in the system by their object ID. For more information, see Organizational Unit. When you create an object, you also need to assign a short name. You can also enter a long name and textual descriptions. Whereas you cannot change the object ID of an object, you can change these names and descriptions.

You can create names and descriptions in various languages in parallel. However, you can edit the data only in the logon language.

Processing

You have the following processing options:

  • Create

Since you need to enter the short names of an object when you create it, there is always data in this data area (according to the substitution rule). You use the function for editing data to create new data.

  • Edit

If you choose the function for editing data, you can either overwrite existing data (do not change the validity period of the selected data record), or create new data for a different validity period. The system ensures that the chain of data records in this data area is without gaps. No parallel data can exist at any time in this data area. You can only change data in the logon language.

The system displays the texts (names and descriptions) in the logon language. If no texts are available in the logon language, the system displays the texts in a different language instead. You can define the substitution rule in Customizing for the component Personnel & Organization, under Start of the navigation path Infotypes Next navigation step Infotypes for Organizational Objects Next navigation step Infotype Settings Next navigation step Define Sequence of Supported Languages End of the navigation path.

Structure
