Business Context and Use

You want to provide offline charging services (OFCS) in your system landscape. Your system or application must be able to charge at a deferred time the customer service usage in batch mode. This process component provides operations for charging past chargeable items. Consider the Recharging process component.

Charging

The acquisition process of SAP Convergent Charging acquires chargeable items from a mediation system and records them into a data storage such as the BART database, SAP CI, or a third-party system.

The charging process rates chargeable items representing customer service usages by calculating their monetary amounts, and identifies the accounts to charge for the service consumption and other fees. Depending on the charging request type, the monetary amount is either debited from the account or simply reserved for authorization.

The charging process generates data files for billing or invoicing purposes that the bulkloading process of SAP Convergent Charging can transfer to third-party systems such as billing or invoicing systems. SAP CC can post billable items and consumption items to SAP CI.

Included Service Operations

The following operations are related to the charging of past chargeable items:

• Charge a single chargeable item (offline charging)
• Charge a set of chargeable items in mass mode (offline charging using the MOST mode)
• Charge a set of chargeable items in bundle mode (offline charging using the ALL mode)

The following operations are related to the advice of charge:

• Charge a single chargeable item in check mode (blank charging operation)
