A parameter
is a variable defined in a charge. You assign a name, a type, and a default value to the parameter when you create it in the charge.
A parameter introduces a new numeric, a date, or a string-type property to the rating context. You can use its value within a price plan or a charging plan.
A parameter can be redefined later on to highly customize your pricing configuration:
You can redefine the value of a parameter when the charge that contains it is added to an offer or a charge plan in the pricing catalog (see the parameters of a charge plan or the parameters of charges in an offer)
You can further redefine the value of the parameter when this charge is activated as part of a subscription or a provider contract as part of the customer master data (see the parameters of contract items or the parameters of subscriptions)
In offers and charge plans, you can also create parameters which can be shared across several charges.

Note: Particular string types are available in a reusable charge: Mapping Table ID, Mapping Table Key, and Range Table ID. You need these types to use mapping tables or range tables in your pricing logic or to use SAP CRM prices in recurring charges. |
Example
TelcoServ proposes a certain number of call time (hours) for a given subscription. The price plan calculates the corresponding subscription fee, which can also be a parameter. The call plan has two parameters "Subscription" and "Call time". These parameters can vary as shown below:
|
Subscription parameter |
Call Time parameter |
|
$20 |
2 hours |
|
$40 |
5 hours |
|
$60 |
10 hours |
Using these parameters, you can build specialized packages (call plans) where no other parameters are visible. For example, you can create a “2-hour Subscription” package in which the amount of call time is set to two hours and the amount of the subscription is $20.
Parameters are set up on the Parameters tab of charges.
