About spending status descriptions

Caution: When SAP Convergent Charging is integrated with a policy or monitoring system, check the settings configured in this system before modifying or deleting spending status descriptions with Core Tool. Modifying or deleting spending status descriptions may result in inconsistencies between the two systems because there is no replication or synchronization mechanism.

Note: As of SP04, SAP Convergent Charging 4.0 features spending status descriptions to configure the monitoring plans. A spending status description is a business data available in the complete SAP CC system. You create spending status descriptions only when SAP CC is connected to a policy or a monitoring system and when the spending status monitoring function is implemented in your system landscape.

A spending status description is a list of labels that represent information exposed by SAP CC to an external system (policy or monitoring) to convey valuable information relating to the end customer spending. It is part of the business data configuration. The SAP CC system uses these labels to convert a counter value of a provider contract into a spending status label that can be reported to a policy system or a monitoring system. The policy system can apply some rules depending on the label value of this reported spending status.

A spending status description consists of:

Note: In the 3GPP environment, you can use a spending status description to define the values of policy counter status.

Example

You implement policy control in your system landscape to ensure fair usage and to optimize the network bandwidth allocation with predefined policy rules. You can configure a spending status description 'Data fair usage' that defines different quota levels of fair usage for the data service.

Prerequisites

This configuration must be shared between the SAP CC system and the connected policy system. In your policy system, you may need to set up a policy counter identifier for each spending status description configured in SAP CC. You set up the policy counter statuses that are available for this policy counter.

Integration

The configuration of spending status descriptions in SAP CC must be known in the policy system or in the monitoring system. In the connected system, the related settings can have different forms according to the technology: Policy counter values, policy rules, and so on.

Transport

You can transport this business data between SAP CC systems or manually maintain the configuration in both systems.

To transport the spending status descriptions

For each spending status description, you apply the following procedure:

  1. Save a spending status description in a file.

  2. Log on to the target SAP CC system, or launch another Core Tool.

  3. In the target system landscape, create a new spending status description by opening and copying the previous file.

Data maintenance

You must manually synchronize the configuration of the SAP CC system and the related configuration settings in the connected policy system or in the monitoring system. When you change the configuration of spending status descriptions, you change the configuration in the policy system.
