About charges

Important:

  • In an integrated SAP Solution scenario with the SAP CRM and the SAP ERP/FI-CA components of SAP Business Suite, if you need to manage payments to a business partner, SAP SE recommends that you only configure appropriate master charges in SAP CC with the Revenue Sharing and Partner Settlement feature enabled in SAP ERP/FI-CA. Refer to the O2C Integration Guide documentation for more information about partner settlement, customer billable item classes, and partner billable item classes.

  • Dependent charges cannot be used in stateless mode even if menus and commands are available in the Core Tool user interface.

In SAP Convergent Charging, a charging business scenario consists of two stages: A rating process and a charging process. For example, when an end customer consumes a service, the rating process dynamically calculates an amount while the charging process defines which prepaid or external account will be charged or refilled with the amount.

A charge allows to configure this charging business scenario through a decision tree made up of two parts:

Charges consist of two types: master and dependent charges.

Price plan

A reusable charge always includes a single price plan. The price plan is a decision tree representing the algorithm to calculate an amount linked to a usage event, a recurring event, or a one-shot event. For example, an amount can be linked to the usage of an Internet service through a chargeable item class if the price plan contains a usage rate component.

Charging plan

A reusable charge always includes a single charging plan. A charging plan is a decision tree that defines which accounts will be charged or refilled with the amount of the service calculated by the related price plan.

To charge or refill an account, the charging plan is linked to a subscriber account. When an end customer subscribes to different charges, the charging references of the related charging plan are connected to one or more accounts defined in the related subscriber account.

Before starting

Important:

  • It is strongly recommended to read the caution about what you can do or not in price plans

  • Read the note about making retroactive changes to a charge or a charge plan

  • Read the note about the persistent counters

Before creating and setting up a reusable charge, you must be familiar with the following:
