In SAP Convergent Charging, a charging business scenario consists of two stages: A rating process and a charging process. For example, when an end customer consumes a service, the rating process dynamically calculates an amount while the charging process defines which prepaid or external account will be charged or refilled with the amount.
A charge allows to configure this charging business scenario through a decision tree made up of two parts:
The price plan that models the rating process
The charging plan that models the charging process
Charges consist of two types: master and dependent charges.
A reusable charge always includes a single price plan. The price plan is a decision tree representing the algorithm to calculate an amount linked to a usage event, a recurring event, or a one-shot event. For example, an amount can be linked to the usage of an Internet service through a chargeable item class if the price plan contains a usage rate component.
A reusable charge always includes a single charging plan. A charging plan is a decision tree that defines which accounts will be charged or refilled with the amount of the service calculated by the related price plan.
To charge or refill an account, the charging plan is linked to a subscriber account. When an end customer subscribes to different charges, the charging references of the related charging plan are connected to one or more accounts defined in the related subscriber account.
