Variant

Definition

A variant in the Clinical Process Builder is composed of a specific number and sequence of subscreens and sequencing elements (for example, folders or tab pages) and a particular functional scope (for example, scope and sequence of pushbuttons) for certain entry, editing and display areas. Users of the movement transactions (for example, admission, transfer, discharge) and of the patient master data editing transactions use variants to work with these functions.

Use

You can use variants supplied by SAP (SAP standard variants), or the system administrator can create customer-specific variants tailored to the needs of the individual user(s). The system administrator assigns the variants to users or roles. When processing the above mentioned functions, users can select these assigned variants.

Example
  • A user who wishes to edit patient master data, works with a variant whose subscreens are suited for the editing of patient-related data.

  • A user who wishes to trace the material consumption for a case, works with a variant that contains the subscreen for the case-related material consumption.

  • A user who wishes to create an admission, selects a variant whose subscreens contain not only the patient-related and case-related data but also the movement data.

Structure

You can define variants with different screen areas and layout options. The handling and functional scope for the user depends on whether a single-screen variant or a tab page variant is used.

Note

In configurations where a subscreen is not useful, the system suppresses subscreens. For example, the system does not display the External Physicians subscreen in a variant for transfers.

Single-Screen Variant

Figure 1: Single-Screen Variant for Admission Example: Overview

A single-screen variant enables you to enter data without changing screens. To ease navigation and increase transparency, there is an overview tree in the left screen area.

  • You can activate or deactivate the overview tree by choosing Tree On <-> Off.

  • When you double-click a header in the overview tree, the system positions the cursor in the entry area in the corresponding subarea.

  • When you click - beside a header in the tree, the system refreshes the quick info text box with the data entered. The quick info text box is located under the tree.

Entry Area for Single-Screen Variant

The entry area on the right of the screen is divided into separate subscreens, each within a frame.

For more information, see subscreen.

Tab Page Variant

Entry Area for Tab Page Variant

The tab pages are divided into separate subscreens, each within a frame. The same subscreens as for single-screen variants are available to you.

Functions Available for all Variants

You can directly access the detail overviews from the respective screen areas by choosing Select Details.

Example

It is possible to directly access the detail view for the Insurance Relationship, External Physicians and Attending Physicians subscreens, for example.
