Exact Stock per Reporting Point versus Exact Stock per Takt

Stocks which are relevant for a supply area and which are managed in the ERP System as storage location or WM bin inventory are not always very accurate as the following time delays may occur:

  • Time which passes between the physical assembly and the recording of data at the reporting point.

  • Time which passes between the recording of data at the reporting point and the goods issue posting in the ERP System.

This means this stock information is not exact enough for automatic supply-to-production. Therefore, the system calculates a dynamic stock which can either be exact per reporting point or per takt (only for takted lines) depending on your requirements.

Exact Stock per Reporting Point

In this case, the system takes all the withdrawals into account that are recorded in reporting point backflushes. The system also takes the goods issues into account that have not yet been posted due to delayed postings in the ERP System. The system also includes all the reporting points which do not trigger goods issue postings.

Caution Caution

For the goods issues which have not yet been posted in the ERP System, the system uses planning data. Therefore, a certain inconsistency may arise for this stock depending on the deviations of the backflushes posted last.

You use exact stocks per reporting point for shop-floor-oriented repetitive manufacturing with iPPE , for example. In this kind of production, there is no specific order sequence as is the case for takted lines.

Exact Stock per Takt

Exact stock per takt is calculated for takted production lines using the information from reporting point backflushes. However, here the system also takes the exact position of the individual orders within a line segment between two reporting points into account.

The system uses the information from the position of the individual orders to determine which withdrawals must already have been carried out. Then the corresponding requirements are subtracted from the stock. A requirement is considered “withdrawn” when the order has left the takt at which the components are assembled. That is, components which have just been assembled are not yet considered “withdrawn”.

Inaccuracies may also occur here due to variances between planned and actual quantities because certain goods issues have not yet been posted in the ERP System.

Exact stock per takt is especially important for consumption-based planning and for the supply area stock correction if the assembly location is not close to the next reporting point.

Prerequisites

If you want to work with exact stocks per takt, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled:

  • The system can only calculate exact stocks per takt for supply segments whose stocks are consumed by takted lines only.

  • You must have set the indicator Takted production with lot size 1 in iPPE on the Basic Data tab page for your line. Then automatic supply-to-production assumes that the orders on the line have been planned using Sequencing/Model Mix Planning and, therefore, that one order exists in every takt with the lot size 1. Orders must always have a lot size of 1 for exact stocks per takt.

  • A serialization reporting point exists for the assembly location. This reporting point is determined by the system automatically when exploding the iPPE. In this case, a reporting point must exist before the assembly location of the components through which the orders pass in the same sequence as they pass through the assembly location. Therefore, no branching of the line is allowed between the reporting point and the assembly location.

  • A synchronization reporting point exists for the assembly location. This reporting point is determined by the system automatically when exploding the iPPE. In this case, a unique reporting point must exist before or after the assembly location and no buffer exists between the assembly location and the corresponding reporting point.

    Caution Caution

    If one of these prerequisites has not been fulfilled, your stocks are only exact per reporting point. That is, the assembled components only reduce the stock if the corresponding order has already passed through a subsequent reporting point. Exact stock per takt is only possible if all the above prerequisites have been fulfilled.
