Special Settings in the Control Cycle

You usually use control cycles as master data for controlling the replenishment of a certain material at supply segment level.

To be able to use automatic supply-to-production, you usually create the control cycles for your supply areas for automatic, summarized JIT calls .

Note Note

In the supply-to-production table, you can also work with control cycles that are based on manually created summarized JIT calls . Here, however, you must note that these control cycles or supply segments are not included in an automatic planning run.

If you want to work with manually-created, summarized JIT calls, you must have set the indicator Manual Summarized JIT Calls in Change Mode in the global settings, in the Planning tab page under Further Settings .

The following parameters in the control cycles are particularly important for automatic supply-to-production:

  • Quantity per call item and number of load carriers

    These quantities determine the rounding logic. Rounding is controlled as follows:

    If a packing instruction is saved in the control cycle and a functional use of this packing instruction is defined in the replenishment strategy, the cumulated target quantity of the packing instruction is used as the rounding quantity.

    If no functional use of the packing instruction has been defined, the Quantity per call item saved in the control cycle is used as the rounding quantity.

    If you have defined a Number of load carriers in the control cycle, the system always rounds up to at least the Number of load carriers * Rounding quantity .

    If, in the packing instruction, you have defined that only one load carrier per call item is to be staged then, as well as rounding the quantities, the system also splits the replenishment proposals so that a replenishment proposal does not exceed the maximum quantity of a load carrier. In this case, the rounding no longer refers to individual replenishment proposals but to all the requested replenishment proposals for a specific point in time.

  • Planning horizon and minimum stock The planning horizon and minimum stock are used to control the missing quantities calculation. For more information, see also Missing Quantities Calculation .

  • Lot-sizing procedure

    The lot-sizing procedure determines how the individual replenishment elements are grouped.

    Lot-for-lot order quantity

    The replenishment proposals are not grouped when using this lot-sizing procedure. You typically use this procedure for demand-driven, automatic supply-to-production combined with a rounding logic. This rounding logic triggers a grouping by quantity criteria which prevents the replenishment proposals from becoming too fragmented.

    Lot size “One lot”

    The system groups all the calculated replenishment proposals when using this lot-sizing procedure.

  • Scheduling type

    You have the following options:

    Requirements date = first material shortage date

    Immediate requirement including replenishment lead time according to control cycle

    If you do not define the scheduling type in the control cycle, the system only creates immediate requirements. For more information, see also Creating Replenishment Proposals and General Prerequisites .
