Copying Configuration Scenarios

Use

You can automatically adjust a configuration scenario with all of the configuration objects that are used in it to new or changed communication components. You can either create a new configuration scenario (as a copy of the original configuration scenario) or adapt the original one. All parts of the configuration where the changed communication components appear are adjusted automatically.

This means that all of the configuration objects that are contained in the configuration scenario, for example, communication channels, or integrated configurations, are automatically adjusted to the changed communication components. The original communication components are replaced by the Copy Configuration Scenario wizard with the new target communication components.

You can use the Copy Configuration Scenario wizard to resolve the following application cases quickly and efficiently:

  • Use an existing configuration as a template for a new or enhanced configuration:

You can use a tested configuration that is combined in a configuration scenario as a template for a new configuration where other communication components (which correspond to another system landscape) appear.

  • Client copy:

You copy the business systems of type AS ABAP that appear in a configuration scenario to a new client. If you want to copy an existing configuration to the new system landscape, you must change the name of the affected communication components (of type Business System ) in all of the relevant configuration objects. Without the Copy Configuration Scenario wizard, you would either have to change all of the configuration objects that contain the affected business systems individually or, in some cases, create them again. This manual procedure is very time consuming and prone to errors. You can do this automatically using the Copy Configuration Scenario wizard.

Procedure

Execute the following steps to use an existing configuration as a template for a new or an enhanced configuration:

  1. On the navigation toolbar, open the configuration scenario node. Position you cursor on the configuration scenario that you require and choose Copy Object from the context menu.

  2. The Copy Configuration Scenario wizard opens.

  3. Enter a name for the target configuration scenario.

  4. Choose Continue .

  5. Under Target Value select the communication components that you want to change. Execute the mapping.

  6. Choose Continue .

  7. Under Preview you can see the number of objects that have been created and the number that have been reused. If you want to create a change list of your own for this configuration scenario, select the Create new change list checkbox. The wizard then displays any possible conflicts that could occur when changing a configuration object. If, for example, the changed configuration object is already in use in another configuration scenario, then you can decide below the preview if you want to overwrite the configuration object or not.

  8. Choose Finish .

  9. Under the summary you can see all objects that were created successfully by the system. If you want to create a results log, select the Display Results Log checkbox.

  10. Choose Close .
