Creating a Snapshot of an AS Instance with SM51

Context

You want to create a snapshot of an AS instance in order to analyze an error situation more closely.

Procedure

Open transaction SM51.
Select the AS instance from which you want to create the snapshot.
Choose the following menu path: Goto Administration Snapshot Create.

Tip You cannot enter a name or description when you create a snapshot in transaction SM50/SM51. If you want to do this, you have to create the snapshot direckly in SAP MMC.
Choose Yes to confirm.

Results

A snapshot is created for the selected AS instance, and is saved in <DIR_GLOBAL>/sapcontrol/snapshots.
