Monitoring: Configuring ABAP Instances
Purpose
To allow the central monitoring system (CEN) to monitor other ABAP systems, you must make various settings in these systems.
Prerequisites
This process is part of Configuring the Monitoring Architecture. To completely configure landscape-wide monitoring, you must also perform the other processes.
Process Flow
Perform the following steps in every monitored ABAP system:
- Create the CSMREG User
You require a communication user with particular, restricted authorizations in all ABAP systems in your system landscape for communication between CEN, the monitored systems, and CCMS agents (see Creating the CSMREG User).
To create the user, start transaction RZ21, choose Technical Infrastructure → Configure Central System → Create CSMREG User, and enter any password for this user.
- Activate Background Dispatching
Some of the monitoring data of the monitoring architecture is collected using data collection methods, which are periodically executed as jobs. So that these methods are started correctly, background dispatching must be activated in all of the ABAP systems of your system landscape (see Activating and Deactivating Method Execution).
To activate background dispatching, start transaction RZ21, and choose Technical Infrastructure → Local Method Execution → Activate Background Dispatching.
- Activate the Internet Communication Manager (ICM)
The monitoring architecture uses the Generic Request and Message Generator for availability monitoring of Web components. This requires that ICM is configured and activated in all ABAP systems of your system landscape.
- Register with CEN
To monitor remote ABAP systems, you need to register the corresponding system in CEN (see Registering SAP NetWeaver Components and Hosts in CEN).
