Product Structure and Assembly Management (PLM-WUI-OBJ-PSM)
You use this component to manage highly variant, multilevel product structures and product assemblies on the Web user interface (Web UI) of SAP Product Lifecycle Management (SAP PLM). Product structures manage product variant structures in early development phases without the need to employ material master data. Product structures support products with a large number of variants. Product assemblies allow you to use explicit assembly definitions for those parts of your product structure that are not variants.
Product Structure and Assembly Management supports the master data evolution during the product lifecycle; and provides high integration of engineering processes and manufacturing processes for highly configurable products. It allows you to document several finished products in one structure. This is effective for high-volume, repetitive manufacturing (for example, the automotive industry), as well as for complex machinery and equipment, or complex assemblies (for example, the aerospace industry).
If you work with products that have many variants and a large number of BOM items you can use this component to optimize process support from early engineering, to hand over, to production.
Product Structure and Assembly Management is integrated with the Web UI of SAP PLM and the Object Navigator. It is also integrated with the following components:
Material Master
(LO-MD-MM
)
Change Management
(LO-ECH
)
Document Management
(CA-DMS
)
Classification
(CA-CL
)
Variant Configuration
(LO-VC
)
This component has the following features:
It allows you to access and maintain product structures. For more information, see Product Structure.
It allows you to access and maintain product assemblies. For more information, see Product Assembly.
It allows you to control access to the product structure and product assembly objects through the authorization concept of the SAP PLM Web UI. For more information, see Authorizations for Product Structure and Assembly Management.
You can use variant configuration for the advanced modeling of product structures. For more information, see Variant Configuration.
You can use parameter effectivity in product structures and product assemblies during simulation. For more information, see Parameter Effectivity for Product Structure and Assembly Management.
