Link-Server Technology In Office integration, you can use
link-server technology
(LINK_SERV) to transfer data from the SAP system to an Office file:
The
link server
manages the fields in the SAP system that can be included in the Office application.
Note
Microsoft no longer supports the link server. Therefore, another technology called file properties is available.
You specify which data you want to be transferred from the SAP system to the Office file in Customizing for
Document Management (CA-DMS
), by choosing
. You can transfer document data, class data, texts, and user-defined file properties. This enables you to store file information in an Office document for organizational purposes and so that it can be easily found later on.
The front-end computer’s operating system must be either Windows 95 or Windows NT. You process the links in the Office application by means of field functions. Therefore, activate the display of field functions in the Office application.
For more detailed information, see Note 0181044.
If you want to use templates that were created in a previous release, you have to execute the conversion report DMS_TEMPLATES_CONVERT (
Template Conversion
).
You set up the
LINK_SERV
technology in Customizing for
Document Management (CA-DMS)
under
. The link server is only started when you select the
Export
indicator in this activity.
If you implement
link-server technology
, the system transfers the following link to a workstation application, for example, for the document number, during data transfer from DMS:
{LINK SAP OLELinkServer.ItemObject 1 SAPOLELinkServerDMSDocumentDRAW.DOKNR \a \t}
