Use this app to generate a product category hierarchy for your company. Only one product category hierarchy can be defined.
This app lets you do the following:
Add or remove product categories from the hierarchy.
Add properties to a product category to be able to filter the properties of a specification in the Manage Specifications app based on its product category.
You can create product categories to classify products based on the collection of properties that are relevant for each given product or product line.
You can order your product categories into a hierarchical list, with a maximum of 10 levels. You can define only one product category list.
A product category root is created upon first opening the app.
Each product category can have a collection of properties either manually defined or inherited from a parent product category. These properties are taken into consideration when a product developer displays a specification in the Manage Specifications app. The displayed properties of the used property tree are filtered down by the set properties in the assigned product category.
Select the product category that you want as a parent for the new product category. To create a product category on the highest level, select Product Category Root.
Choose Create.
The ID is automatically generated, but you can manually overwrite it if needed.
Choose Create.
When creating a new product category, you have to give the product category which you would like to place your new category under. So the parent is the product category one level above in the hierarchy. If you select the Product Category Root, this new category is created as a main product category, no levels above.
Select the product category from the value help which you want to be the parent of this product category. If you selected a product category before creating the new category, this field is filled with the respective product category.
Properties often stay the same for product categories as we go lower in the product category hierarchy. To save maintenance effort, inheritance is enabled by default for them. If inheritance is active, the child automatically inherits the properties added to its parent.
Overwrite interrupts this property inheritance, and allows you to add or remove properties for product categories.
To restore the linkage with the parent categories, you can also disable overwrite and continue the inheritance chain.
View and filter the information displayed in this column of the properties when assigning them to a product category.
