Monitor Task Workflow or Direct Task Executions

Use the monitoring dashboard in the SAP Data Hub cockpit to monitor the execution status of tasks and task workflows.

Prerequisites

You have performed at least one of the following operations:

  • You have executed one or more tasks (direct task executions) in the SAP Data Hub Modeling tool.
  • You have executed one or more task workflows in the SAP Data Hub Modeling tool (direct task workflow execution).
  • You have scheduled one or more task workflows for execution in the SAP Data Hub cockpit.

Context

The monitoring dashboard provides information on the execution status of tasks and tasks workflows. The information in the dashboard includes the following:
  • A pie chart that provides the summary of the task workflows (or tasks) scheduled for execution. The sectors in the pie chart represent a task workflow state.
  • A scatter chart with task workflow (or task) and time axes. Each point in the scatter plot represents a task workflow (or task).
  • Most executed task workflows
  • Recently executed task workflows
  • Tasks workflow taking the maximum time for execution.

Procedure

  1. Start the SAP Data Hub cockpit in a Web browser.
You can access the monitoring dashboard in the Overview page of the cockpit.
  2. In the Service KPIs section, select the Task Workflows tile.
The tool opens the monitoring dashboard. In the Task Workflow tab, the tool displays information on the execution status of all tasks and task workflows.
  3. Filter execution results based on time.
If you want to filter the execution results displayed in the dashboard based on time,
    1. In the monitoring dashboard header, choose the required period.
For example, you can choose Month to filter the results. The tool provides information on task workflow executed or scheduled for execution in that particular month.
    2. If you want to filter and view results for a custom time range, in the dashboard header, choose Custom.
    3. In the Select Range dialog box, use the time ticker to select the start date and end date.
    4. Choose OK.
The tool filters the results and updates the information in the dashboard.
  4. In the Summary tile, select a sector in the pie chart.
Each sector in the pie chart represents a state. The possible task workflow states are Aborted, OK, Error, and Active. If you have selected a sector in the pie chart, the tool opens the task workflow editor where you can view and edit the filtered task workflow logs.
  5. In the Task Workflow vs Time tile, you can select a point for more information on the task workflow.
    Each point represents a log.
  6. Filter execution results based on type.
You can view the execution details for all tasks and task workflows executed, or filter and view execution details for either tasks or task workflows.
    1. In the monitoring dashboard, choose .
    2. Choose a menu option.

      Menu Option

      Description

      View All

Select to view summary of all task workflow executions that you have scheduled. If you want to filter the logs based on projects or task workflows, in the left pane, choose .

      View Task Workflows

Select to view summary of all task workflows.

      View Direct Task Executions

Select to view summary of all direct task executions.

  7. (Optional) Configure charts.
    1. In the editor pane, select Charts.
    2. In the pie chart, select a sector.
Based on the selection, in the Task Workflow vs Time scatter plot, the tool displays all task workflows with the selected state.
    3. If you want to change the time axis to seconds or milliseconds, choose s or ms.
    4. If you want to further filter the results, in the editor pane, select Filters, define the filter conditions, and choose Go.
  8. View log details.
In the bottom pane of the window, the tool displays a list view of all logs that the system creates for various task and task workflow executions. The list view also includes information on the start time and end time of execution, the schedule description, the log status, and more. You can use the header to filter the list based on project name, date of task workflow execution, task workflow name, and task workflow status.
    1. If you want to abort the execution of a task workflow (or task), select it in the list view, and choose (Abort Run).
If you want to resume the execution of a task workflow (or task), select it in the list view, and choose (Resume Run).
    2. If you want more information on each log, click the required Log Id.
The tool opens the task workflow in a task workflow editor (in read-only mode). This editor provides information on the time taken to execute the task workflow and the status of execution of each task in the task workflow. In the Logs pane, the tool displays other logs associated with the same task workflow.
  9. (Optional) View error details.
If any of the task in the task workflow fails, then in the task workflow editor, the tool displays the status of the overall task workflow as ERROR. In such cases, you can check for the errors and make the required changes to the task workflow.
    1. On the task node, choose (Show Messages) to view logs associated with the task workflow execution.
    2. If the task with status as ERROR is an SAP BW process chain task, choose External Logs for more execution details.
  10. (Optional) Monitoring execution of data pipelines.
If you have executed a task workflow that includes a data pipeline task, you can monitor the execution and status of the data pipeline.
    1. In the Monitoring dashboard, choose the Data Pipeline tab.
The tool displays the status of all data pipelines executed in a connection.
    2. In the Connection dropdown list, select the required connection.
    3. Choose View All for a list view of all data pipelines executed in the selected connection.
