Terminating a Workflow or Work Item

Use this procedure for terminating an entire workflow instance and the associated tasks or ad hoc work item in a collaboration.

Prerequisites

You have the necessary roles and authorizations to perform this action.

Context

Terminating a workflow (workflow instance) terminates all running workflow work items and keeps the history of the workflow instance in the collaboration. You cannot terminate a workflow if the status of one or more work items is completed. Similarly, you cannot terminate an ad hoc work item if it is completed.

The associated task status gets updated as Suspended. The task is cancelled for the assigned users and the same status is reflected in the My Inbox.

The following table describes the required participant role in a collaboration to terminate workflow instances or ad hoc work items:

Procedure

  1. In a collaboration, choose the Work Items tab.
  2. Choose the required row to terminate.
  3. Choose Terminate.
  4. Confirm the message.

    The workflow instance or ad hoc work item is terminated, and the statuses are updated in the table.
