Calculations for Cost Sharing and Indirect Costs
You can use the Grants Management (GM) Workbench to make calculations based on the following fields:
Total Budget
The total budget arrived at by adding together the net amount + the cost sharing (CS) amount + the indirect cost (IDC) amount, or an amount you enter directly yourself
Net Amount
The direct amount without indirect costs the total budget without indirect costs or cost sharing, or an amount you enter directly yourself
Total Award
The total of net amount + indirect costs, or an amount you enter directly yourself
Cost Sharing Amount
An amount calculated on the basis of a CS rule
IDC Amount
An amount calculated on the basis of an IDC rule

These are defined in the grant master record.
The following variables can change the way the amount is calculated:
CS Rule
This determines the following:
Whether the calculation of cost sharing is based on the net amount (by adding a rate) or the total budget amount (by subtracting a rate)
Whether the calculation is based on the total cost or direct cost, where “total cost” means the total award and “direct cost” means the net amount only.
IDC Rule
This determines whether the IDC calculation based on the net amount or total budget amount.
Entry amount
You enter this amount directly yourself. It can be the net amount, total award, or total budget amount
Formulas
The various amounts used can be calculated according to different values, as follows:
Entry value (either net amount, total award, or total amount)
CS rate
IDC rate
These values can be combined in the formulas given below.
When entry is by net amount
CS direct cost additive and IDC additive
CS Amount = Net Amount * CS rate
IDC Amount = Net Amount * IDC rate
Total Award = Net Amount + IDC Amount
Total Amount = Total Award + CS Amount
CS total cost additive and IDC additive
IDC Amount = Net Amount * IDC rate
Total Award = Net Amount + IDC Amount
CS Amount = Total Award * CS rate
Total Amount = Total Award + CS Amount
CS direct cost subtractive and IDC additive
IDC Amount = Net Amount * IDC rate
Total Award = Net Amount + IDC Amount
Rate Factor = IDC rate * CS rate
Total Amount = ( 1 + CS rate – Rate Factor ) / ( 1 – IDC rate ) * Net Amount
CS Amount = (Total Amount – IDC rate ) * CS Rate

IDC Amount = Net Amount * IDC rate
Total Award = Net Amount + IDC Amount
