Manage Hierarchies and Tags

Create, edit, and delete tags and hierarchies.

Prerequisites

To manage tag hierarchies and tags, you must have a global role that grants you the following privileges:
  • Data Warehouse General (-R------) - To access SAP Datasphere.

  • Catalog Asset (–RU––-M) - To edit an asset's name and short and long descriptions and add term, KPI, and tag relationships on the asset details page.

  • Catalog Tag Hierarchy (CRUD–--) - To add, edit, and delete tag hierarchies and tags.

The Catalog Administrator global role and the DW Viewer role template (used directly as a global role) applied together, for example, grant these privileges. For more information, see Privileges and Permissions and Standard Roles Delivered with SAP Datasphere.

Create a Hierarchy

Context

Create a hierarchy to group your tags at several levels.

To make sure your tag hierarchy is available in all catalog views, it's best to create it using the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit system. If you want the tag hierarchy to be available in just one specific formation, create it using the SAP Datasphere system for that particular formation.

Procedure

  1. In the side navigation area, choose (Catalog & Marketplace)Start of the navigation path Next navigation step End of the navigation path (Search).
  2. On the catalog search page, choose Manage Tags.

    The Tag Hierarchies page opens.

  3. Choose the Custom Tags tab, and choose Create.

The Create Tag Hierarchy dialog opens.

  4. Enter a name for the hierarchy.
  5. Optional: Enter a description.
  6. Optional: Enable or disable the option to assign multiple tags to an asset.

When selected, this option allows you to add multiple tags to an asset, while disabling this option allows for one tag only. For example, you wouldn't want to assign multiple tags to an account type. Typically, an account can only be one type such as a savings or checking account.

  7. Optional: Enable or disable the option to expose the tag hierarchy in the search filters and to allow the SAP Business AI feature to assign tags from the hierarchy to assets.

When selected, the tag hierarchy is shown in the filter panel. You'll also be able to use the SAP Business AI feature to help you assign tags to assets.

While it's convenient to see the hierarchy in the filter panel, selecting more than 10 tag hierarchies reduces performance. As a best practice, limit to 10 or fewer tag hierarchies. If needed, you can change this option after the hierarchy is created.

  8. Choose Save to create the hierarchy and close the dialog.

Create a Tag from the Tag Hierarchies Page

Context

Add tags to a hierarchy. Use these steps when you've created a hierarchy, and you want to immediately add tags.

You add tags to a hierarchy by accessing the catalog from the same system that was used when creating the hierarchy. For example, if you access the catalog from the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit system to create a tag hierarchy, you must access the catalog from the same system to add a tag to that hierarchy.

Procedure

  1. From Custom Tags tab on the Tag Hierarchies page, select a hierarchy.

    A side panel opens.

  2. Choose (Create Tag).
  3. Enter a name for the tag.
  4. Optional: Enter a description.
  5. Optional: Choose a color for the tag.
  6. Choose Save to create the tag.
  7. To create a child tag, select a tag and then choose (Create Tag). To create a tag at the same level as the previous tag, choose (Create Tag) without selecting any current tags. Repeat the steps in this section.

Create Tags from the Asset Details Page

To make sure your tag hierarchy and tags are available in all catalog views, it's best to create them using the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit system. If you want the tag hierarchy and all tags to be available in just one specific formation, create them using the SAP Datasphere system for that particular formation.

Procedure

  1. On the catalog search page, use the filters or the search to find an asset and select it.

    The asset details page opens.

  2. Select Start of the navigation pathSemantic Enrichment Next navigation step  TagsEnd of the navigation path.
  3. Choose one of the options depending on whether there are existing tag relationships.

    • If there are tag relationships, and you want to add more tags, select the Manage button.

    The Manage Tags dialog opens.

  4. In the Hierarchy list, choose the hierarchy that contains the tags that you want to use.
  5. Choose one of the options, depending on what level you want to create the tag.
    • To create a top-level (parent) tag, choose Create next to the Search box.

    • To create a child tag, select the tag that you want the new tag under, and then choose (Create Child Tag).

  6. In the Hierarchy list, expand the hierarchy that contains the tags that you want to assign and select the tags.
