The minimum security demand for your network infrastructure is the use of a firewall for all your services that are provided over the internet. A more secure variant is to protect your systems (or groups of systems) by locating the system groups in different network segments. Each system group has a firewall that protects it from unauthorized access. External security attacks can also come from the inside, if the intruder has already taken control of one of your systems.
