Clarification Code

Definition

A clarification code controls posting and further processing for an item entered in the broker report.

A clarification code contains the following parameters:

  • Category

  • Posting rule

  • Additional activities

  • Main and subtransactions for postings to a subledger clarification account

  • G/L clarification accounts

Use

Clarification codes must be set ( explicit details) when entering broker reports if a proposal has been made for an item (in other words, selected items have been offered as a result of the proposal).

It is only possible to edit an item that does not have a clarification code if an item has been stored in the report without a proposal . In this case, dependent on equal amounts, overpayment or underpayment, the clarification code is determined from the default values given in the report for the item category, before the item is posted ( implicit details).

The clarification code can be made invalid by a change to the reported or proposed amount for a report, if the amount change leads to a change in the equal amounts attribute or the over- or underpayment attribute. The clarification code is adjusted according to the default values defined for the clarification code.

You configure clarification codes in Customizing for Collections/Disbursements under Start of the navigation path Broker Collections Next navigation step Settings for Posting Broker Reports Next navigation step Configure Clarification Code End of the navigation path .

Structure

A clarification code groups the following control information:

Category to which the code can be applied

A clarification code can only ever be used either for a premium, or a claim, or commission or costs.

Posting Rule

Posting rules are supplied with control attributes that define the report item categories for which posting rules can be used, and the conditions (equal amounts, overpayment, underpayment) under which the posting rules can be used.

Activities

In addition to the control information for postings, you can define any number of activities for a clarification code to be carried out once an item has been successfully posted.

External main and subtransactions for clarification postings

You define main and subtransactions for postings to a subledger clarification account. You can assign a set main/subtransaction to every clarification code.

You also have to specify transactions for postings on account as well as transactions for clarification postings in Customizing for clarification codes that use posting rules 24 (‘Commission underpayment: Full clearing on commission account, remainder to clarification’) and 27 (‘Commission overpayment: Full clearing on commission, remainder to clarification’).

Assigned general ledger accounts

You can define a short account assignment instead of an account number when assigning general ledger accounts. This takes place in the Implementation Guide for Start of the navigation path SAP Insurance Next navigation step Collections/Disbursements Next navigation step Broker Collections Next navigation step Assign General Ledger Accounts to Clarification Codes End of the navigation path .

You define short account assignments in the Implementation Guide under Start of the navigation path Collections/Disbursements Next navigation step Business Transactions Next navigation step Incoming/Outgoing Payment Processing Next navigation step Define Short Account Assignments for Transfer Postings End of the navigation path .

You can also define a key for CO account assignments for short account assignments, which contains set values for CO account assignments. In the Implementation Guide, choose Start of the navigation path Collections/Disbursements Next navigation step Basic Functions Next navigation step Postings and Documents Next navigation step Document Next navigation step Define Account Assignments for Automatic Postings Next navigation step Define CO Short Account Assignments End of the navigation path .

When using the short account assignment for a general ledger account, the attributes for the CO account assignment key defined in the short account assignment are passed on to the general ledger item created when posting the broker report, as well as the attributes for the short account assignment.
