Working with Snapshots

As a rule, you will use the most up-to-date SQL Monitor results of the system. Under certain conditions, however, it can be of interest to fall back on data records that have already been recorded, or to analyze them in a different system, for example, the development system.

The SQL Monitor tool supports both use cases by so-called snapshots. You can create snapshots for a certain point in time and use them as a data source for the current analysis, or you can use the snapshots for archiving. Snapshots have the advantage that you can access, at any time, fixed data records that will no longer change during analysis.

Prereqisites

  • For creation or deletion of snapshots, you need the authorization profile to perform administration tasks in the SQL Monitor.
  • For using snapshots as your data source, you need the authorization profile for displaying SQL Monitor data.

Selecting a Snapshot as Data Source

Procedure

  1. Open the SQL Monitor tool using the transaction code SQLM (/SDF/ZQLM for ST-PI version).
  2. On the initial screen of the SQL Monitor, click the Display Snapshots button.
  3. On the Data Display screen, click the Select button.

  4. In the list that appears, select the desired snapshot by pressing F8 or clicking the corresponding icon.

Creating SQL Snapshots

Procedure

  1. On the initial screen of the SQL Monitor, click the Manage/Create Snapshots button.
  2. Under the Create tab, edit the description and the Data Source, and specify further options for the snapshot to be created. You have two options for specifying the data source for the snapshot to be created:
    1. If you choose the File Import function, you can upload the monitor recordings that have been collected in your productive system and then exported to a local file.
    2. If you choose the Local System as the Data Source, the latest monitoring data of the current system will be stored in the snapshot.

  3. Press F8 or choose Create Snapshot in the toolbar.

Deleting SQL Snapshots

Procedure

  1. On the initial screen of the SQL Monitor, click the Manage/Create Snapshots button.
  2. Choose the Edit/Delete tab.
  3. Select the relevant snapshot in the list and choose Delete Snapshot icon.
