This process describes how EWM parts are staged using a production material request (PMR). A PMR is a document that contains information required to stage and consume materials directly in SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM). This information includes the product, quantity, production supply area, and date for which material staging is planned.

The data required to create the PMR is transferred from SAP ERP to SAP EWM via a queued remote function call (qRFC). The PMR is subsequently created in SAP EWM and the goods are issued directly from SAP EWM.

Prerequisites

  • You have created a Production Supply Area (PSA) and specified the destination storage location for material staging. The storage location must be managed in SAP EWM.

  • You have created a control cycle for the PSA with the following settings:

    • Destination

      The system automatically determines the storage location and warehouse number for the destination from the production supply area for which you are creating the control cycle.

    • Source

      The system automatically specifies the issuing plant. You only have to specify the issuing storage location. The issuing storage location and plant must be identical to the destination storage location and plant.

    • Material Staging Indicator

      You have specified the Material Staging Indicator 5 for EWM Staging.

  • You have specified the production supply area for the relevant component in the BOM (or in the material master or in the production version).

  • The order for which the material is to be staged must have been at least partially released (that is, at least one operation in the order must have been released).

Procedure

The figure below shows the process of staging EWM parts using the advanced production integration of SAP ERP and SAP EWM.

  1. You create a manufacturing order (production order or process order) and release it.

  2. You trigger material staging in the Change Production Order transaction (CO02).

  3. The system automatically generates a production material request (PMR) in the SAP EWM system.

  4. You create warehouse tasks to trigger staging in SAP EWM and the material is moved to the production supply area (PSA).

  5. You post the material consumption.

  6. SAP EWM posts the goods issue and generates a goods movement document.

  7. The goods movement document is sent to SAP ERP via a qRFC interface.

  8. In SAP ERP, the user sets the status of the manufacturing order to complete or technically complete.

  9. The status update is reported to SAP EWM via the qRFC interface.
