Component documentationSearch Integration

You can use this component of Product-Centric View (PCV) to create, display, change, delete, and transport a search connector. A search connector establishes the connection between the data source provider and PCV, providing search access to a specific data source at a specific destination (logical system) or list of destinations. For more information, see Search Connector.

Integration

PCV integrates Search Integration with the following components:

  • User Interface

It displays the result of query processing on the user interface. For more information, see User Interface.

  • Query Management

It processes queries, which collect and analyze data provided by search connectors. For more information, see Query Management.

  • Foundation, Monitoring

It provides the definition of the meaning of input and output attributes of search connectors. It also provides a function to check the consistency of search connectors. For more information, see Foundation, Monitoring.

Features

  • Creation of Search Connectors

You can create a new search connector in the following way:

    • You can create a search connector by composing a completely new search connector definition (see Definition of Search Connectors).

    • You can copy and change an existing search connector.

PCV comes delivered with a set of predefined, standard search connectors (the ID of which begins with number 1). You can use these search connectors directly or copy them to the customer name space (by using an ID beginning with A to Z) and change them as needed. For more information, see SAP Business Content for the Analysis of Materials.

  • Display and Change of Search Connectors

You can display and change an existing search connector.

  • Deletion of Search Connectors

You can delete an existing search connector. The system performs a where-used check to determine if the system is using the search connector in other objects (for example, in queries) before deleting it. If the system is using the search connector in another object, the system does not delete it and gives you information about which object is using the search connector.

  • Transport of Search Connectors

You can transport a search connector between PLM systems.

    Note Note

You have to transport a search connector together with all dependent objects, such as input and output attributes.

    End of the note.
  • Check of Search Connectors

The system performs the following checks of search connectors:

    • Where-Used Check

Before deleting a search connector, the system automatically performs a where-used check. You can only delete search connectors that the system is not using in other objects (for example, in queries.)

You can manually perform a where-used check of a search connector any time by using the Define Search Connectors transaction.

    • Consistency Check

Before saving a search connector, the system performs a consistency check. If the check results in at least one error or warning (which means that an inconsistency exists or might exist), the system asks you whether you want to save the search connector anyway. Temporary inconsistencies can occur in cases where, for example, you cannot finish the search connector definition but do not want to discard the incomplete definition.

Before processing a search connector, the system automatically performs a consistency check to prevent data inconsistencies. The system can only process consistent search connectors.

You can manually perform a consistency check of one or multiple search connectors any time by using the Consistency Check program. You have to manually correct data inconsistencies that the program detects. For more information, see Consistency Check).
