Caution

Web Dynpro Client for Windows is only available as a Beta version. You can download it as an integral part of SAP GUI for Windows from Service Marketplace at http://service.sap.com.

Purpose

Web Dynpro Client for Windowsis a SAP front end for the Microsoft Windows operating system. It can be used in both a Web browser and the SAP GUI. You can use Web Dynpro Client for Windows to launch Web Dynpro applications available on a Web Application Server and to execute them there.

Web Dynpro Client for Windowsalso enables you to call other Web addresses using an address bar, similar to in a browser, or open the source code of the XML files.

The advantages of using Web Dynpro Client for Windows are:

      Fast server response times, thus providing high throughput

      Support of low-end hardware

      Improved desktop integration through the options provided by ActiveX controls.

For example, you can change the font size of the texts in the application with the key combination Ctrl + Mouse wheel.

      Optimal support in Windows systems.

Prerequisites

To launch Web Dynpro Client for Windows, SAP GUI for Windows must be installed. The documentation for the SAP GUI is provided in the F1 help for SAP GUI for Windows.

The Web Dynpro application to be displayed is available on a Web Application Server.

As with usual Web browser access, you develop Web Dynpro applications in SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio. You then deploy the Web Dynpro project on Web Application Server. Alternatively, Web Dynpro applications that you want to execute in the Web Dynpro Client for Windows are already available on the Web Application Server.

Features

Structure

When Web Dynpro Client for Windows is launched, a user interface similar to a normal browser is displayed. The user interface can be divided into the following areas:

      Top-level navigation bar at the top of the user interface, which offers various functions.

      Address bar where you can enter the application URL. You then trigger the request by pressing the ENTER key.

      Content area in which the Web Dynpro application is displayed.

      Status bar which uses an animation in the right corner at the bottom to indicate if the Web Dynpro Client for Windows is waiting for a server response.

Call

After opening SAP Logon, choose the Web Dynpro Applications tab. The list of available Web Dynpro applications is displayed on the left-hand side of the user interface, similar to the favorites in the Windows Internet Explorer. This list can be set up by the administrator. End users can also maintain it if they wish.

If you want to access a special Web Dynpro application that has not yet been entered in the table on the left-hand side of the tab, you need to define a special link to that application on the Web Dynpro Applications tab in SAP Logon.

On this tab you have the following pushbuttons:

      New Item… Defines a link to a Web Dynpro application

      Change Item… Edits an existing link

      Delete Item… Deletes a link

To launch a Web Dynpro application in Web Dynpro Client for Windows, choose Log on.

As with the Web browser, you access the Web Dynpro applications by activating a HTTP request in Web Dynpro Client for Windows.
