The Security Provider service enables you to manage the security roles on the server. The security roles concept enables better control over the users and groups defined in the AS Java. When you work with Web components, the roles enable you to define the collection of users that can access the component. You can think of a security role as an abstract name that represents permissions for accessing a defined set of resources in a system. Many users can be associated to a role and the AS Java only takes care about users that are assigned to the correct role.

A Web application for a department that sells books behaves in a different way for users that are assigned to the administrator role than with users that are assigned to the cashier role. In this way, users in the administrator role can view employee data, and users that are mapped to the cashier role can manage accounts data.
