The Java Dictionary stores user-defined data types for all applications. Data types are defined and modified centrally. If a type is modified, all objects (types or tables) using this type are established upon generation. The objects that are found are automatically adjusted to include the change.

You can enter semantic information for a type in the type definition in the Java Dictionary. This includes texts that are displayed for the F1 help, texts for use in Web Dynpro, input help, and so on.

Data type definitions are based on the XML schema and are enhanced with certain properties that are not available in the XML schema. The XML file of a data type created in the Java Dictionary contains, for example, the following entries:
