Specifying Semantics and Source for Open ODS ViewLocate this document in the navigation structure

In the dialog box for creating an Open ODS view, you can specify the technical name and description, the semantics, and the source of the Open ODS view.

Prerequisites

  • For transformations as sources of Open ODS views:

You can use a transformation as the source for the Open ODS view provided that you have created the corresponding data flow:

  • For DataStore objects (advanced) as sources of Open ODS views:

DataStore objects for which all reporting takes place on the active table are supported.

Procedure

  1. Under View Name, enter a technical name for the Open ODS view. A maximum of 12 characters can be entered for the name.
  2. To create an Open ODS view from within another Open ODS view, select an InfoArea that you want to assign to the Open ODS view.
  3. Enter a description for the Open ODS view under Long Description.
  4. Select the semantics (facts, master data, texts).
  5. Under Type, select which type of source object should be used as the basis for the Open ODS view. You may need to make further entries, depending on the source type.
For sources of type DataSource (BW):
    1. Select the source system that the DataSource belongs to, which you want to use as a source object for the Open ODS view. The selection displays the technical name of the source system, as well as the description. The description is preceded by the source system type. Supported types include those that support direct access. You can choose source systems for which DataSources are available in the BW only.
    2. Select a DataSource as the source object of the Open ODS view. You can select only those DataSources, whose data type matches the semantics of the Open ODS views and that support direct access.
For sources of type database table or view:
    1. Under DB Object Schema, select the schema where the table or view is located, which you want to use as the source object for the Open ODS view. You can choose from the schemas of the SAP HANA database, which the BW system runs on.

A DB Connect source system is used to access the data in the source. The schema is specified in the configuration of the DB Connect source system. If a source system has already been defined for the DB object schema, this system is displayed in the Source System field. If there is no source system for the schema, it is created when the Open ODS view is created. In this case, the source system field displays a suggested name that you can overwrite. The proposal is derived from the schema name.

    2. In the DB Object Name field, select a table or view as the source object of the Open ODS view.
For sources of type Virtual Table Using HANA Smart Data Access:
    1. Under Remote Source, select the database that is available by using SAP HANA Smart Data Access.
    2. Under DB Object Schema, select the schema where the table or view is located, which you want to use as the source object for the Open ODS view. You can choose from the schemas of the database that you previously selected.

A DB Connect source system is used to access the data in the source. The remote source and the schema are specified in the configuration of the DB Connect source system. If a source system has already been defined for the DB object schema of the remote source, this system is displayed in the Source System field. If there is no source system for this combination, it is created when the Open ODS view is created. You can enter a name for this source system. If you do not enter a name and you choose Create (Create) in the next step (after having entered a table or view), a dialog box opens with an alternative name suggestion for the source system that you want to create. The proposal is derived from the remote source name. You can overwrite the proposal.

Note If the source system already exists for the Open ODS view that you want to create, you can select this system directly under Source System (instead of selecting the remote source and the DB object schema). When you confirm your entry after having selected the source system, the dialog box opens also shows the remote source and the DB object schema of the source system.
    3. In the DB Object Name field, select a table or view as the source object of the Open ODS view.
    For sources of type Transformation:
    1. Select either the InfoSource (transformation target) or the DataSource (transformation source), in order to specify the transformation as the source object.
For sources of type DataStore object (advanced):
    1. In the DataStore Object: Name field, select the DataStore object as the source object of the Open ODS view.
  6. Check your entries and choose Create (Create).
The Open ODS View maintenance screen appears.
