Editing Short Texts in QueriesLocate this document in the navigation structure

The BW system enables you to use characteristics of a suitable InfoProvider as key figures in the query definition, in order to change characteristic values (for example, classifications) in queries or to write comments (short texts) on key figure values in queries.

Context

The implementation of this technical option is used to assist with manual planning for BW-integrated planning: you need a DataStore object for direct update in planning mode to store the entries that you make for the characteristics used as key figures. You can still store actual data and plan data, in an InfoCube for example. For integration of data, a MultiProvider that you add the DataStore object to for direct writing is suitable. On the MultiProvider, you define an aggregation level that contains the characteristics used as the key figure as its key figures, and acts as an InfoProvider for the input-ready query.

Procedure

  1. In the DataStore Object maintenance screen, specify which characteristics of a DataStore object you want to use as key figures for direct writing in planning mode. These objects have the technical name 1KYF_Merkmalsname and the standard aggregation and the exception aggregation NO2; in other words, they cannot be aggregated.
  2. You can only configure short texts in input-ready queries. Therefore you need an aggregation level as an InfoProvider. This InfoProvider must contain the required objects. Check that the characteristics in the aggregation level are used correctly.
  3. If necessary, you can use a range of standard planning functions on InfoProviders, which contain characteristics used as characteristics.
  4. Define an input-ready query with the required objects.
    Note that you cannot use all the functions in queries on InfoProviders, which contain characteristics used as key figures. This applies especially to functions, which are not relevant to this situation, in the Selection/Formula/Cell Properties dialog box for a structure component of query, as well as for the definition of exceptions and conditions. Functions that are not relevant are reset at query runtime.

Results

Depending on which scenario and which client you are using, you now have the option of writing your own short texts in the query at runtime, or selecting or modifying characteristic values.
