Creating InfoObjects: CharacteristicLocate this document in the navigation structure

Procedure

  1. In the context menu for your InfoObject catalog for characteristics, choose Create InfoObject.
  2. Enter a name and a description
  3. Enter a reference characteristic or a template InfoObject. If you choose a template InfoObject, copy its properties and use them for the new characteristic. You can edit the properties if required. For more information about reference characteristics, see Reference InfoObjects under Tab Page: Compounding.
  4. Confirm your entries.
  5. Maintain the General tab page. You have to enter a description, data type and data length. The following settings and tab pages are optional.
  6. Maintain the Business Explorer tab page
  7. Maintain the Master Data/Texts tab page
  8. Maintain the Hierarchy tab page
  9. Maintain the Attributes tab page. This tab page is only active if you have set the With Master Data flag on the Master Data/Texts tab page.
  10. Maintain the Compounding tab page
  11. If the InfoObject has been indexed on the BWA, you can edit the BWA Index tab page.
  12. Save and activate the characteristic you have created.
    Note

Before you can use characteristics, they have to be activated.

If you choose Save, the system creates all characteristics that have been changed and saves the table entries. They cannot be used for analysis and reporting yet though. If there is an older active version, this is kept at first.

The system only creates the relevant objects created in the data dictionary (data elements, domains, text tables, master data tables and programs) once you have activated the characteristics.

In InfoObject maintenance, you can switch at any time between any D, M, or A versions of an InfoObject.
