Mix Type Definition

Definition

The mix type definition of the edition or media issue contains concrete data on other objects that can be combined with it. The mix type definition is defined under the key of a mix type, which already contains information on whether or not combination with ad pre-print inserts (ad inserts) is possible. A mix type definition can reproduce the following combination types :

  • Insertion

  • Combination

  • Substitution

Use

You define the mix type definition of an edition or media product on the maintenance screen for the product mix . To access this maintenance function, choose Start of the navigation path Logistics Next navigation step Media Sales and Distribution Next navigation step Periodical Sales and Distribution Next navigation step Master Data Next navigation step Product Master (Periodicals) Next navigation step Product Mix Next navigation step Edit. End of the navigation path

Background documentation

The product mix is maintained separately from the product master because this data cannot be created if product synchronization is active. The media product master does not contain fields for this purpose.

Prerequisite

Before you can maintain mix type definitions , you must first define the possible mix types (e.g. full, title inserts only, without inserts etc.) on the maintenance screen for the product mix . You must maintain ad pre-print information on each mix type (stating whether or not combination with ad pre-prints or ad inserts is possible).

Note Note

Each mix type definition is maintained under the key of a mix type.

End of the note.

Create

When you create the mix type definition for an edition or media product, you enter the required data on the desired combination types – insertion, combination or substitution – for each mix type (see below). Since ad pre-print info is sufficient to define a mix type definition, the combination types are not a required part of the mix type definition.

Note Note

As an aid for data entry, you can copy the data from the mix type definition and the mix offer from a template object.

End of the note.

Change

You can only change the valid-to date for the mix type definition if circulation planning has not yet taken place for the period.

Delete

You can delete an entry you no longer require if planning has not yet taken place in its validity period.

Structure

The mix type definition for an edition or media product consists of the following data depending on the combination type:

Combination type

Meaning

Example

Ad pre-print info

Determines whether or not ad pre-prints can be combined. Ad pre-print info is a required element of the mix type and represents the minimum data required for a mix type definition.

The European edition of a magazine is always delivered without ad pre-prints.

Insertion

Determines which media product or edition can be inserted in the purchase period (restricted by issue variant type if you wish).

A distinction is made between third-party and publisher inserts for the postal charge forecast.

A TV guide is inserted in the Friday carrying issue. If the Friday is a public holiday (and the Thursday carrying issue is therefore published in the form used for the Friday issue), the TV guide is inserted on the Thursday.

Combination

Determines which edition or media product is combined in the purchase period with its own mix type and, if applicable, an alternate delivery type.

Combination takes place independently of the publication of the current edition. You can make the following settings for the combination:

  • The indicator Combination is relevant for billing (BR) allows you to determine whether the combination issues (media issue) are relevant for billing orders. This affects proportional pricing in start-up and run-out periods, in unit-related pricing and in orders with a liability account – if an amortization installment is defined for the combined edition (media product).

  • If you select the indicator Combination is relevant for correction (CR), you define that complaints, returns, retail correction deliveries and extra copies orders can be entered for the issues (media issues).

A Sunday newspaper is combined with the local newspaper although the local newspaper is not published on Sundays.

Billing is performed for delivery of the Sunday paper. It is also possible to record complaints for the Sunday paper.

Substitution

Defines which edition (media product) substitutes the current product if it is not published.

The regional edition replaces a local edition on days on which the latter is not published.
