Repeating Canceled Updates
Use
When updates with the status Error are listed in the Update Requests screen, it is not sufficient simply to correct the error that caused the premature cancelation. You must also ensure that the canceled update is re-executed. Otherwise, the change will never be recorded in the database.
Procedure
To re-process canceled updates, do the following:
-
Display canceled updates. To do this, on the initial update management screen (transaction SM13) choose All, and reset the date to a date before the error occurred. You now have to repeat processing for the update records that have the status Error, or are from the specified time period and are stuck in status init, started, or auto.
-
Re-process each canceled update. To do this, proceed according to the status of the update record:
-
Records with status Error
Put the cursor on each update in turn and choose .
Update requests for which a repeated update cannot be performed are identified by the symbol
in the info column. In such cases, the system automatically terminates the repeat update. Potential causes are:-
The update was processed by batch input. This is indicated by the symbol
in the info column. In such cases, use the batch input manager to repeat the canceled transaction, and then delete the update request. -
The update cannot be re-processed because it could cause data inconsistencies. In this case, you must extract the data from the update. For more information, see Displaying Users, Transactions and Data from Updates.
Then re-enter the data using the appropriate transaction.
In all other cases the update is carried out.
-
-
Records with status init
Put the cursor on each update in turn and choose .
-
Records with status started or auto:
In exceptional cases, updates can get “stuck”, in other words, they remain in an active state, and a (repeat) update cannot be performed. If this occurs, you can reset the status, and repeat the update.
For more information, see Reset Update Status.
Once you have performed a reset, the status of the update record returns to init and the record can either be updated automatically, or as described above.
There are update records for which a repeat update is not possible. This is indicated by the symbol
in the info column. This is the case if the records contain one or more update modules of the type V1 repeat update not possible.
-
-
Extract the data from all canceled updates that could not be processed. You have to re-enter these updates manually.
-
Delete all canceled updates that could not be re-processed.
