Reorganization of Materials and Purchase Orders
A new assignment of profit centers affects materials when the profit center in their master record changes.
You can use the profit center reorganization to change the profit center in the material master record and transfer balances for all materials that you have selected for the profit center reorganization.
Moreover, there are processes in purchasing with which the system forwards the profit center from the material master to the follow-on documents. You can also use profit center reorganization to adjust the profit center in purchasing documents and transfer the balance of the GR/IR account.
The reorganization of materials and purchase orders forms part of the profit center reorganization. Relationships to other objects that have inherited their profit center assignment from the material are reflected by the derivation hierarchy.
In the standard derivation hierarchy, materials are always objects on the first level.
The following object types can inherit their profit center from the material:
Sales order item
Purchase order item (unassigned)
CO production order
Product cost collector
PP production order
Process order
The following prerequisites must be met for the reorganization of materials:
You have ensured that the prerequisites for the reorganization are met and you have made the general Customizing settings for the reorganization.
For more information, see Prerequisites and Customizing for the Reorganization.
If you want to define specific restrictions for materials in the reorganization plan, you have specified restriction characteristics accordingly in Customizing for the Reorganization
under . For example, you can restrict the relevant sales order items by entry date or change date.
You have ensured that the following specific prerequisites for materials have been met.
Material stocks need to have been valuated at the plant level (this is the standard setting). Valuations at the company code level are not possible in the reorganization. In Customizing for Enterprise Structure
under , check whether the Valuation Level Is a Plant
indicator is set.
With the profit center reorganization, the GR/IR account is corrected. For the system to be able to clear the open items in the follow-on processes with the new profit center, you have to use Document Splitting.
For all movements of material stock, the system makes postings using the profit center from the material master record. This standard logic also applies for special stocks (here: sales order stocks and project stocks).
The following case is not supported in the reorganization: A cost element is defined for the material stock account; it is used to apply the profit center from the WBS element or sales order for material movements). See also SAP Note 530578 (special stocks in PCA).
In the reorganization of materials and purchase orders, you reorganize the following objects:
The materials themselves
Unassigned purchase order items
Assigned purchase order items
You can select the affected materials and assign new profit centers. You can then trigger correction of the master data and transfer the existing stocks to the new profit center.
The following delivery costs are also transferred: Freight costs and duty costs.
Price differences are transferred provided that they are not cost elements.
Open purchasing documents (called unassigned purchase order items) can be included in the reorganization. Such documents are purchase order items and scheduling agreement schedule lines that have been posted to the material to be reorganized but that have not been assigned to a cost center or any other cost objects.
During the reassignment for materials (changes to the master data of the materials), the system automatically selects the unassigned purchase order items and reassigns them as well.
You can also transfer these unassigned purchase order items (separated from the material in a separate step). With the transfer of the unassigned purchase orders, the system corrects the stocks on the GR/IR account.
Assigned purchase order items can also be included in the reorganization. An assigned purchase order item has received its profit center from an assigned cost object, such as a cost center or an internal order. For this reason, an assigned purchase order is not selected together with the materials; instead, it is selected together with the relevant cost object (such as the cost center or internal order).
In the reorganization plan, the assigned purchase order items appear in separate object lists, that is, in the respective object list of the cost object belonging to the profit center that needs to be changed.
Note
Inconsistent purchase order items (that is, purchase order items that are assigned with a different profit center that the profit center contained in the material) are not reorganized. During the purchasing processes, these purchase order items are processed using the old profit center. They appear in the log for the reorganization alongside a warning message.
Transfer prices are not supported. To achieve a reorganization of the material stocks with support of the transfer prices, profit center determination and price determination must occur with time-dependency. However, price determination for transfer prices is not time-dependent.
As the reorganization manager, you specify any required selection criteria for materials in the specific restrictions of the reorganization plan. In this way, you can exclude materials from the reorganization.
As reorganization manager, you start generation of the object list for materials.
Open the object list for materials and assign object owners to materials.
Save your entries.
The materials appear in the personal object lists of the object owners.
As an object owner, you open your personal object list Material
. For each material, decide which new profit center needs to be assigned to the material.
Set the status of the objects to Approved for Further Processing
.
As the reorganization manager, you start the reassignment.
In this step, the system changes the profit center in the material master record. It also reads the material stocks for each profit center.
Start the transfer of the stocks.
Where necessary, repeat these steps to reorganize your objects successively or to include new objects.
You reorganize the open purchase order items for these materials by selecting the object list Purchase Order Items (Unassigned)
and performing the steps Reassignment
and Transfer Posting
.
The object list Purchase Order Items (Unassigned)
contains the open purchase order items that were posted with a cost object. If you reorganize internal orders, cost centers, and other cost objects in your reorganization plan, you can select their purchase orders by generating the object list Purchase Order Items (Assigned)
. You can then perform the reassignment and the transfer posting in the same way.
