Relationships between Import Properties

CAD Format Import Properties have a relationship between various properties. This topic deals with importing and displaying hidden objects, and their visibility behavior with regard to model views.

Import Property

Behavior Description

Import Hidden Objects only

When this setting is used by itself, generic hidden objects are imported. Their visibility is set as hidden.

The following occurs:
  • Hidden objects are imported

  • Hidden objects are not displayed

  • Trigger/toggle for other Import Properties (ex. Import Wireframes)

Display Hidden Objects only

When this setting is used by itself, nothing extra is imported. This setting only affects the scene if used with Import Hidden Objects.

The following occurs:
  • Nothing extra is imported

Import Model Views only

When this setting is used by itself, model views are imported. Hidden or other objects are not imported. Visibility of objects in the scene is affected by the model views. Generally the first view is the active view of the scene. In NX, this view is the “Work” view.

The following occurs:
  • Model views are imported

  • Nothing extra imported

  • Visibility settings are dependent on the model view

  • The first model view is activated (Work view when NX)

Import Hidden Objects + Display Hidden Objects

When these settings are used together, all the generic hidden objects are imported and visible.

The following occurs:
  • Hidden objects are imported

  • Hidden objects are displayed

Import Hidden Objects + Import Model Views

When these settings are used together, hidden objects and model views are imported. The model views drive the visibility of all the objects.

The following occurs:
  • Hidden objects are imported

  • Model views are imported

  • Visibility settings are dependent on the model view

  • The first model view is activated (Work view when NX)

Import Hidden Objects + Display Hidden Objects + Import Model Views

When these settings are used together, hidden objects and model views are imported. The model views drive the visibility of all the objects, and Display Hidden Objects affects visibility only when there are no model views.

The following occurs:
  • Hidden objects are imported

  • Model views are imported

  • Visibility settings are dependent on the model view

  • The first model view is activated (Work view when NX)

  • If no model views, Display Hidden Objects sets visibility

Initial View

The initial view is the view displayed after a file is loaded. There are two main methods in which an initial view is set.

  • Normal: When a file is loaded without any model views, the initial view is an isometric view displaying all visible objects, with zoom extents. Display Hidden Objects affects visibility in this case.

  • Model Views: When model views are imported, the first model view is the initial view of the scene. With NX, it is the “Work” view. Display Hidden Objects does not affect visibility in this case.

Import Hidden Objects + other import options

Import Hidden Objects works as a trigger/toggle for other import properties as well, not only for Display Hidden Objects. Some elements are classified as Wireframes, Points, and so on. As an example, Import Hidden Objects and Import Wireframes combined imports generic hidden objects and hidden wireframes.

  • Ex. Import Wireframes – When Import Hidden Objects is used combined with Import Wireframes, elements categorized as hidden wireframes are imported
