Manual Explode Settings

Use

The Manual Explode settings are available when you start an explosion from the Manual Explode toolbar.

Using the Manual Explode settings in the Tool Assistant, you can modify the settings for all types of manual explosions.

The available options for Manual Explode include, but are not limited to, the type of explosion, the order in which the parts are exploded, whether animation sequences are created, and whether each exploded part has an attached thrustline.

Functional Description

Explode

Lists all current available settings for manual explosions

  • Start New Explode: Begins a new explosion. The scene selection is automatically added to the explosion order list, and an anchor is selected. If no scene selection is made, the existing anchor and explosion list are maintained. Selecting Start New Explosion ends the current explosion sequence.

  • Finish Current Explode: Ends the current sequence, and creates animations and a step

  • Cancel Current Explode: Ends the current sequence, and resets the part positions. Key frame animations are not recorded if you cancel.

  • Reset Positions: Resets the magnitude back to 0, and deselects the explosions handles. This allows you to select again without cancelling or starting a new explosion.

Explosion Position

Sets the position, and type of explosion. The explosion position settings are available when an explosion is first started. These settings can be selected only once for an explosion.

  • Mode: Sets the type of explosion

  • Linear: The selected objects move along a single explosion axis away from a set point, (the anchor)

  • Radial: The selected objects move in an outward direction from a specified explosion axis. For example, if the explosion axis is Z, objects are moved within the XY plane away from the Z axis.

  • Axis: The axis on which the explosion occurs. This can be X, Y, or Z.

  • Direction: The direction in which the explosion occurs. This can be a positive or negative direction.

  • Magnitude: The distance that the first object has travelled

Explosion Order

Sets the order in which the objects explode, and the explosion anchor

  • Set Anchor: Displays the selected anchor. This is a single node that will not move, and from which all other parts explode away . The anchor can be any node that is selectable in the scene. This field is always populated if a sequence has started, and one or more parts are selected in the 3D scene. The anchor is automatically set, but can be changed.

  • Explosion Order List: Lists all of the objects that are included in the explosion, including groups of objects. This list is empty until an explosion sequence is started and active.

  • Add: Adds a selected object to the list

  • Remove: Removes a selected object from the list

  • Move Up: Moves a selected item up the explosion order list

  • Move Down: Moves a selected item down the explosion order list

  • Group: Creates a group when you have multiple objects selected

  • Ungroup: Separates the selected group into separate objects

  • Clear List: Removes all parts from the list and clears the Anchor selection. This will not change the explosion positions.

Automatic Grouping

Groups parts together in the explosion so that they do not explode away from each other. The grouped parts are treated as a single part in the explosion.

  • None: Prevents any automatic groupings

  • Group by Name: Parts with the same name are grouped together

  • Group by instance: Instances are grouped together as one part

  • Group by hierarchy level: Parts lower than the specified level in the hierarchy are grouped together

  • Group by geometry: Parts with the same geometry are grouped together

Animation

Sets the animation options for manual explosions. On/Off indicates whether animation sequences are created in the explosion

  • Create one Sequence for all Parts/Groups: Creates one animation sequence for the entire explosion

  • Create Sequences for each Part/Group: Creates an animation sequence for each exploded part

  • Create Step for each Sequence: Creates a step for each animation sequence

  • Animation Sequence Prefix: Used to set a prefix for the created animation sequences

Thrustlines

Sets the thrustline options for manual explosions. On/Off indicates whether thrustlines are created in the explosion. By default, thrustlines are not enabled. A thrustline is created from the anchor to the leading part only.
