Animation Timeline Menus

Use

Various right-click menus are available from within the timeline and when the cursor is located over the hierarchy nodes. For example, if you right-click the object name, you can display the object properties, and add new tracks.

Some of the commands are common to both menus. Here we describe all commands across all the animation timeline right-click menus.

Features

Node/Object List

Displays the animation tracks of the individual duplicated objects or the object. The following options are available from the menu:

Menu Option

Functional Description

Node

Displays the name and animation tracks of the selected Scene tree node. That is, the object instance.

Object

Displays the name and animation tracks of the actual object that the selected Scene tree node represents

Sequence

The following options are available when you right-click a sequence in the timeline:

Menu Option

Functional Description

Copy

Copies all currently displayed tracks to the clipboard

Paste

Pastes the copied tracks to the current sequence

New Track

Adds various track types to the sequence hierarchy. The available track types depend on the current object type. For example, the Opacity track is available for most 3D objects, and the Pos/Rot/Scale and FOV tracks are available for camera objects.

Activate

Activates the selected sequence

Duplicate

Duplicates the selected sequence

Reverse

Reverses the keys of the currently visible tracks of the current sequence; the first key becomes the last, and the last becomes the first.

Track

The following options are available when you right-click a track, to perform various functions for the selected track:

Menu Option

Functional Description

Copy

Copies the selected track to the clipboard

Paste

Pastes the selected track to the current sequence

Delete

Deletes the selected track

Track Properties

Chooses the type of track interpolation, types of allowed controllers for object rotation, and establishes the start and end points of a cyclic animation.

  • Angle Axis: Allows angle axis

  • Euler Angles: Allows euler angles. Euler angles evaluate each axis independently in a set order.

  • Quaternions: Allows quaternions. All three axes are evaluated at the same time to find a direction to travel, and a fourth value (the w component or, up vector) tells the matrix how far to travel.

  • TCB Interpolation: Applies TCB interpolation to the track. The spline (curve) is interpolated between each key to smooth the animation.

  • Linear Interpolation: Applies linear interpolation to the track. The track lines are linked directly between each key.

  • Start Cyclic: Sets the selected key as the start point of a cyclic animation

  • End Cyclic: Sets the selected key as the end point of a cyclic animation

Timeline

The following options are available when you right-click a timeline, to perform various functions for the selected animation:

Menu Option

Functional Description

Insert Key

Creates a key in the closest frame to where you right-click

Copy

Copies the selected keys to the clipboard

Paste

Pastes the selected keys to the current time/frame

Pan Mode

Used to pan the timeline view

Scale Mode

Used to scale the timeline view

Selection Mode

Used to select keys in the timeline

Fit Horizontally

Fits the current track into the timeline window in the horizontal direction. This is helpful if the frames are spread over a large duration.

Fit Vertically

Fits the current track into the timeline window in the vertical direction. This is helpful if the components are spread over a broad number of values.

Auto-Fit

Automatically fits the timeline in the available space. note that the auto-fit functionality become apparent when you view a different track.

Key

When you right-click a key, the system performs various functions for the selected key. For more information, see Key Properties Window.
