Making Objects Unique

Use

When you mirror an original object, it is generally ‘instanced’. Making an object unique reinstances it, and turns the object into a true copy with no links back to the original model.

Instancing objects reduces the size of the file, however, making a unique copy of an object increases the file size, decreases the transfer rate, and increases render times. Instances can be converted to copies by using the Make Unique tool.

Activities

  1. Select the object that you wish to make unique.

  2. Right-click in the 3D viewport and select Duplicate.

  3. Right-click the duplicate object and select Make Unique.

The selected 3D object in the scene is now a unique copy of the original.
