To Measure Distance

Context

There are a number of different methods for measuring distance.

Procedure

  1. Choose Distance in the toolbar. The Tool Assistant opens, displaying the available settings for the type of measurement that you’ve selected.
  2. Select Type to Distance/Perpendicular.
  3. Do one of the following:
    Option Description

To measure distance between vertices, set Reference Features to Vertex/Endpoint Vertex/Endpoint, and select two vertices in the viewport.

The measurement selector is enabled for vertices. A measurement is created between the selected vertices.

To measure distance between edges, set Reference Features to Edge Edge, and select two edges in the viewport.

The measurement selector is enabled for edges. A measurement is created between the selected edges.

To measure distance between midpoints, set Reference Features to Edge Midpoint Edge Midpoint, and select two edges in the viewport.

The measurement selector is enabled for edges and their midpoints. A measurement is created between the midpoints of the selected edges.

To measure distance between faces, set Reference Features to Face Face, and select two faces in the viewport.

The measurement selector is enabled for faces. A measurement is created between the two selected faces.

To measure the intersection of two lines, set Reference Features to Intersection of Two Lines Intersection of Two Lines, and select two edges that connect/cross/intersect as a first point. Then select another two edges that connect/cross/intersect to form a second point.

The measurement selector is enabled for edges. Interconnecting lines can be selected and measured.

To measure distance between points, set Reference Features to Line by Two Points Line by Two Points, and select two faces in the viewport.

The measurement selector is valid for points. The points are used to set construction lines for the measurement.
The measurement is made and the dimension is created.
