Assignment Rules for Adult Nursing
General Nursing - Nursing Levels A1, A2, A3
Each patient must be assigned to one of the three nursing levels once a day. For the assignement to the nursing level acc. to A2 at least one classification characteristic must apply in each of two service areas; if only one classification characteristic from A2 applies and if a second applies from A3, the patient should be assigned to nursing level A2. The classification characteristics must however come from difference service areas. If two classification characteristics from A3 exist, the patient should be assigned to A3.
Special Nursing - Nursing Levels S1, S2, S3
Each patient must be assigned to one of the three nursing levels once a day. For the assignment to the nursing level S2, at least one classification characteristic must apply. An assignment acc. to S3 is made if at least one classification characteristic from S3 applies.
Operationalization of Frequencies
An assignment is made to nursing level S3 in adult nursing if
services were performed more than eight (8) times from the service area S31, or
services were performed more than two (2) times from the service area S232.
An assignment is made to nursing level S2 in adult nursing if
services were performed more than four (4) times from the service area S211, or
services were performed more than eight (4) times from the service area S31, or
services were performed more than four (4) times from the service areas S211 and S31.

The service area S31 corresponds to the entry in the NSR catalog ES31 Specific Services of Special Nursing from the Service Area 1 (Services in Connection with Surgeries, Invasive Procedures or Acute Illness Phases for Adult Nursing).
Example
In adult nursing, the classification characteristic "Treatment of large area or deep wounds or large areas of skin" can be used together with the frequency of the service for the differentiation between S3 and S3.
