Identification

Use

This function is used to uniquely identify a specification on the basis of different identifiers. An identifier is defined as follows:

  • The identification category generally specifies the data type. Categories Name, Number, and Chemical Formula are shipped with the standard system.

  • The identification type describes the identification category more closely.

Integration

You can output identifiers to reports.

Prerequisites

In Customizing for Basic Data and Tools, you have processed the following IMG activities:

  • In IMG activity Check Identification Listing, you define which identifiers are displayed on the individual program screens (e.g. on the hit list, in the value assignment etc.). For an identification listing, you can define

    • The maximum number of identifiers to be displayed for an item

    • That an identifier can only be displayed if it is assigned a specific regulatory list

  • In IMG activity Check Identification Types, you define the identification types. For each identification type you can also define the following:

    • The specification category to which a specification must belong in order to be assigned with an identifier of this identification type

    • The maximum input length of an identifier

    • Check function that checks the correct entry of an identifier

    • Whether an identifier of category Name is language dependent

    • Whether lowercase letters can be converted into uppercase letters

    • Whether special characters are permitted

    • Whether an identifier of category Chemical Formula is assigned to a document

      Example Example

You can, for example, define the following identification types for specification category Substance:

      Identification Cat.

      Identification Type

      Name

IUPAC name, product name, synonym, trivial name, trade name etc.

      Number

CAS (Chemical Abstract Service) number, EINECS (European INventory of Existing Commercial chemical Substances), ELINCS (European LIst of Notified Chemical Substances), UN number (assigned by the United Nations Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods) etc.

      Chemical formula

Total formula, rational formula (breakdown of the chemical formula by chemical functional units) etc.

      End of the example.

Features

You can:

  • Create any number of identifiers for a specification. Within an identification type, you can define any sort sequence.

  • Enter text of any length for each identifier.

    Note Note

You can format your text. If the text is output to a report, all the formats (character, paragraph formats etc.) are retained. A prerequisite is that environment parameter LONGTEXT_FORMAT_SUPPORT must be set in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools.

    End of the note.
  • Assign Regulatory Lists to each identifier

  • Specify a Usage for each identifier

Activities

To create identifiers for a specification, proceed as follows:

  1. Follow the procedure Creating Specifications or Editing Specifications and choose the Identifiers tab page.

  2. Enter the required data (see also Example: Editing Identifiers ).

    Note the following:

    • Select a language key for language-dependent identifiers.

    • To format the identifier text or enter more than 132 characters, double-click the Identifier field to open the text editor. From here, you can enter and format text of any length.

    • If you text is longer than 132 characters or you have formatted your text, you will only be able to edit it in the text editor.

  3. Confirm and save your entries.

  4. If required, specify a usage for the identifier and assign it to a Regulatory List (see Editing Usages or Assigning Regulatory Lists).
