Value Assignment Types and Characteristics SetupEvery value assignment type is linked with a Class
of class type 100. In SAP component Classification System (CA-CL), you can assign any number of Characteristics
(see also Creating Characteristic Fields).
You assign classes to individual value assignment types
in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools
. The value assignment type inherits the class characteristics. The value assignment types can belong to different categories (see Value Assignment).
Characteristics can have the following data types:
Numeric characteristic
Numerical characteristic with range input
Alphanumeric characteristic with user-defined character input
Alphanumeric characteristic with predefined values
Characteristic with reference to the phrase library (data type Character Format
with 30 places)
A default unit of measurement is assigned to numeric characteristics in the system. In such a field, it is sufficient to enter the value as a number. The unit of measurement will be added once you have confirmed your entry. You can only use different units of measurement if these appear in the table of units of measurement, have the same dimension, and conversion parameters have been specified
If you have created new characteristics, you have to execute the Match Up Value Assignment Type and Characteristic
function to update the information displayed.
Recommendation
We recommend using IMG activity Adopt Standard Specification Database Structure
to adopt the classes and characteristics supplied with the standard system.
