EH&S Service Administration

Use

This function controls and manages the generation servers for the Windows Wordprocessor Integration (WWI) program and the EH&S Expert servers as Microsoft Windows services in the SAP system using the EH&S management server.

Although no Customizing entries are necessary for the installation of an EH&S Expert server, EH&S service administration generates the relevant Customizing entries during the installation of a WWI generation server and creates them in a productive system.

Independent of EH&S service administration, you can also set up the WWI and Expert servers in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools. You must then take the following into account:

  • The transport logistics of your system landscape (development, test, and productive systems)

  • The combination of client-specific and cross-client Customizing

    Recommendation Recommendation

We recommend that you use EH&S service administration. You should only use the manual setup option in Customizing if you want to use a different nomenclature than the one generated by EH&S service administration.

    End of the recommendation.

Prerequisites

  • Setting Up EH&S Service Administration

To install EH&S service administration, process the IMG activity Set Up EH&S Management Server in the Tools section of Customizing for Basic Data and Tools.

You must have installed an EH&S management server for each server PC.

  • Setting Up Generation PCs

You have edited the Configuration of Generation Servers section in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools. If you are using EH&S service administration, the IMG activities under Manual Configuration of Generation Servers are not required.

  • Setting Up EH&S Expert

You have edited the EH&S Expert section in the Tools section of Customizing for Basic Data and Tools. If you are using EH&S service administration, the IMG activities under Manual Configuration of EH&S Expert Servers are not required.

  • Permission

You must have the relevant authorizations in the authorization object C_EHSU_SVC (Service Administration). The system also checks the authorization object S_ADMI_FCD (for access to Remote Function Call (RFC) data and gateway monitor data).

Features

When the application is started, all self-registering RFC servers are determined that are currently logged on at a gateway of the SAP system. By means of the RFC program ID, all server PCs are determined on which an EH&S management server is installed. (The RFC program ID must be entered in the RFC destination of the SAP system and in the SAPRFC.INI file of the EH&S management server PC.)

When an EH&S management server is called, the following functions are available in EH&S service administration:

Function

Description and Procedure

Install WWI generation servers as Microsoft Windows services

Choose with the quick info text Install WWI Generation Server.

Install EH&S Expert servers as Microsoft Windows services

Choose with the quick info text Install EH&S Expert Server

Uninstall WWI and EH&S Expert servers

You can uninstall services that have the status Stopped by choosing Start of the navigation path Edit Next navigation step Delete End of the navigation path.

Note Note

When you uninstall a WWI server, the corresponding Customizing entries are also deleted.

End of the note.

Control services

Service Parameters tab page

  • General group box

    • In the Start Parameter field, command line parameters are passed to a service during startup.

    • In the Startup Type field you can specify whether the service is to be started automatically when the PC is booted or whether startup is only possible manually using EH&S service administration.

With the startup type Disabled you can also specify that the service cannot be started.

    • Set the Monitor Service indicator if the EH&S management server is to restart services automatically in case of failure.

  • Status group box

Depending on the service status, the following control commands are available:

    • with the quick info text Start Service

    • with the quick info text End Service

    • with the quick info text Restart Service

In the Start Parameter field, command line parameters are passed to a service during startup. If necessary, you can pass additional control information if the service supports this.

  • Parameter Name and Parameter Value

    • For WWI generation servers the key is displayed.

    • For EH&S Expert servers the parameters for the settings as a service are displayed. For more information about the parameters, see Set Up EH&S Expert Server As a Windows Service in the EH&S Expert section of the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Basic Data and Tools.

Display and edit configuration files

  • RFC Parameters tab page

You can display the RFC parameters and the SAPRFC.INI file. In edit mode you can set the Trace indicator to activate logging for the RFC communication between the application server and the service. For performance reasons, only set the indicator for diagnosis purposes.

  • Application Parameters tab page

    • For WWI generation servers you can display and edit the WWI.INI file. Note that WWI.INI is used centrally by all generation servers installed on the server PC.

    • For EH&S Expert servers you can add or delete sets of rules. If necessary you can also activate logging.

You can also edit the Global Expert Parameters. For more information about the global parameters, see Set Up Windows Registry (Global Settings section) in the EH&S Expert section in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools.

Check service administration logs

Event Log tab page

You can filter the event messages displayed using Filter.

Transfer files

Choose one of the following:

  • with the quick info text Transfer File to Server

  • with the quick info text Transfer File from Server

    Note Note

The directories for the server PC are set as defaults. If you have selected a server directory in the Directory Path field, choose the icon next to the Directory Path field to view the directory structure.

    End of the note.

Test network connection

Choose with the quick info text Test Network Connection to Server.

Note Note

If a number of server services have registered on different PCs under the same RFC program ID, the connection test is not unambiguous, that is it tests whether the RFC connection can be established to one of the server services.

End of the note.

Filter services

Choose with the quick info text Filter Services.

Initialize cache

Choose with the quick info text Initialize Cache.

Note Note

  • The scope of functions can vary depending on your authorization profile, the software installed on the server PC, and the status of a service. For example, the Install WWI Generation Server function is available only if WWI has been installed.

  • The functions relate either to the currently selected service in the structure view (for example, Start Service) or to a server PC (for example, file transfer). With functions that relate to the PC, the PC is determined automatically by the service currently selected.

  • On a server PC, services can be installed that can register themselves in different SAP systems. It is possible, for example, to have a server PC on which all services are installed for the SAP test system and the SAP consolidation system. In EH&S service administration, all services are always shown, but for security reasons, only those services can be managed that have registered in the local SAP system (marked with ). Services that have registered in another SAP system (marked with ) must be managed by EH&S service administration in that system.
