Nomenclature of SymbolsThe symbol key that the system generates for a standard characteristic contains the following:
A G
A part of the class key (see Nomenclature of Standard Class Keys)
A part of the characteristic key (see Nomenclature of Standard Characteristic Keys)
Example
The complete symbol key entry G10100001AB is made up as follows:
Part of Key | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Letter |
| Four-digit cluster of class key |
| Class number |
| Two letters from the specific part of the characteristic key: If the specific part contains an underscore, the system uses the first letter and the first letter after the underscore ( If the specific part does not contain an underscore, the system uses the first two letters. |
Symbol keys that you generated with a master data matchup also start with G. The rest of the key is made up as follows:
The symbol keys for table fields consist of the first four characters of the table key and the first five characters of the field key.
Example
Tables in the SAP component Specification Management
start with EST (ESTRI, ESTVH
). The symbol key for the IDENT
field is therefore GESTRIDENT
(symbol key for identifier).
The symbol keys for value assignment types consist of the first four characters of the class key and the first five characters of the characteristic key.
Note
If two symbols with identical keys result, the system replaces the final letter with a digit.
Parameter symbol keys that are supplied with the system start with E. EH&S version symbols (symbol type 99) start with V
. V and E symbols are protected in customer systems and cannot be changed there.
