Compressing Blank Fields With this procedure you suppress the output of data if a particular value is missing.
You have created the document template and inserted the required texts, descriptor symbols, specification symbols, and parameter symbols (see Document Template Layout Editing ).
First, you must define the symbols for which values must exist. This is so that the values of other symbols that have been defined or Microsoft Word texts are output. You can transfer these control symbols from the document template or from the symbol tree:
Select the required symbols of the type
Specification
(01) or
Parameter
(02) in the document template.
On the
Blank Compression
tab page, choose
with the quick info text
Insert Symbol from Template
below the
Templ. Symbols
group box .
The selected symbols are displayed in the
Templ. Symbols
group box.
Move the required symbols from the
Templ.
Symbols
group box to the
Control Symbols
group box by double-clicking (or using
with the quick info text

Select a symbol of the type
Specification
(01) or
Parameter
(02) in the symbol tree.
On the
Blank Compression
tab page, choose
with the quick info text
Insert Symbol from Tree
below the
Control Symbols
group box .
The symbol from the symbol tree is entered in the
Control Symbols
group box.
Note

See also Blank Compression and Example: Blank Compression .
In the document template, select the symbol or text to be suppressed if no value exists for the control symbol.
Choose
with the quick info text
Insert WWI Object in Template
above the
Blank Compression
tab page.
The blank compression is inserted around the selected area.
Note
Blank compression has the symbol type 13 .
For blank compression within Microsoft Word tables that extend over a number of cells, you should note the following:
If the blank compression extends over whole table rows, the respective table cells are suppressed completely:
Row 1 |
||
<13BNG001(...)> Row 2 |
Text |
...<13ENG001> |
Row 3 |
Result when text is suppressed:
Row 1 |
||
Row 3 |
If blank compression only encompasses parts of table rows, only the contents of the enclosed cells are suppressed. The cells themselves are retained:
Row 1 |
||
Row 2 |
<13BNG001(...)> Text |
...<13ENG001> |
Row 3 |
Result when text is suppressed:
Row 1 |
||
Row 2 |
||
Row 3 |
