Working With Web Intelligence Documents
In Web Intelligence documents, you can view report information in sections, drill on hierarchical data in charts and tables, filter data using input controls, refresh reports and perform a whole lot of other actions on report parts.
How do I filter information in a report?
- Tap the
(Filter) icon that appears in the tool-bar of
the report. The Filters pop up appears displaying the dimensions (with their values) according to which you can filter information in the report.
- Tap the arrow (>) symbol next to the dimension names in the pop up to see the
value list, and make the required selection of values.Note
- Some dimensions may have hierarchical values and you may need to traverse down a hierarchy for making the selections. Some dimensions may be based on a range of values, in which case you need to move the slider position to the left or right based on your requirements.
- To reset all selections, choose Reset all in the pop up.
- Choose Apply in the Filters pop up.
The report is refreshed to display the information based on your selected dimension values.
How do I reorder table columns?
To reorder the rows of a horizontal table, tap and drag the row headers up or down on the screen.
How do I view report information in sections?
Sections allow you to split report information into smaller, more comprehensible parts. When the report designer has defined sections in a Web Intelligence report, a section handle appears at the left corner of the report on the device screen. The section handle appears as shown below:

On tapping this handle, the section panel appears on the screen as shown in the figure below:
The sections panel lists the dimension values according to which you can view information in the report parts. If the dimensions are hierarchical, the values may appear in a hierarchical manner.
How do I analyze information in geo-analysis?
Geo analysis (or geomaps) display information in a geo-localized format. Geo analysis displays BI data for different geographic locations on the world map.
These locations are known as points of interest (POIs). Each POI has a unique value of location (latitude, longitude) and name (such as city-name, state-name, company-name or store-name).
- Web Intelligence Geo-map (only datapoint type Bubble is supported)Note Geo-maps are supported on SAP BusinessObjects Mobile Application from BI 4.2 SP3 onwards. For details on Web Intelligence geo-maps, see Web Intelligence User Guide
- Geo- map created using tables(legacy).
Viewing Data for Different Measures in geomap
Once you open a geo analysis report, it displays the information corresponding to a default measure defined by the report designer. On tapping a point of interest (POI), the measure value corresponding to that location (POI) appears in a pop up.
To view information for a different measure in geo analysis, tap the measure header that appears on the top right of the report and select the required measure from the list that appears in a pop up.
The information in geo-analysis is refreshed to display the POI values for the selected measure. (Multiple measures are not supported in Web Intelligence Geo-maps)
Viewing Data for Different Dimensions in geomap
Once you open a geo analysis report, it displays the information corresponding to the default dimensions defined by the report designer.
To view information according to different dimensions in geo analysis, tap the dimension header that appears on the top left of the report and select the required dimension from the list that appears in a pop up.
The application retrieves the World map in geo analysis from Apple maps available over the internet. So if you have opened the geo analysis document in your Corporate network, you may need to temporarily switch the Wifi connection to the Internet to retrieve the World map in geo-analysis. Once the map (with geographic locations) loads in the report, you can switch back to the Corporate network to continue working with the application.
Similarly, if you have downloaded a geo analysis document and you view it offline, only the points of interest (POIs) appear on the screen and the map is unavailable in the background.
How do I drill information in a report?
- Tap on a data-point (in a line-chart) or tip of the bar (in a bar-chart) as shown in the
below figure:
A pop up appears displaying the measure value corresponding to that node
or bar. In the pop up, choose the up-arrow symbol to drill up, and the
down-arrow symbol to drill down. - Depending on how the hierarchy is defined in the report, the information is drilled and the chart displays the new information. For example, if the chart displays <Revenue> versus <State>, drilling up may display the Revenue versus <Country> and drilling down may display the Revenue versus <Store Name> if the defined hierarchy on the server is Store Name->State->Country.
Drilling in Tables
Tap on any cell within the table column that you want to drill, and select Drill Up: <Higher Dimension> (to drill up) or Drill Down: <Lower Dimension> (to drill down).
For example, if you tap on a cell within the <City> (dimension) column, you may get options to Drill Up: State and Drill Down: Store Name if the defined hierarchy on the server is Store Name-> City-> State
How do I save a personalized view of a Web Intelligence report?
You may want to run a Web Intelligence report for a specific set of selection criteria, with specific filters or sorting applied, and then ‘save’ it. This personalized view is now a separate document available for both online and offline consumption.
- Tap
(Report Settings) to open the secondary toolbar
of the BI document, and tap on Save View. - In the pop up that appears, specify a Personal View Name
and tap Done.
- Your personalized view of the BI document is saved in device memory, and you can access it by tapping Personal Views in the left navigation panel (Browse menu) of the app.
- If you want a saved personal view to display the latest information from the
server (in online mode), you need to explicitly
Refresh the personal view after opening it. You
can update the personal view with latest data from the server in 2 ways:
- By tapping on the Refresh icon in the tool-bar of the opened personal view.
- By tapping on the Update option that appears in the Information screen of the personal view document.
- Personal views are supported on both Web Intelligence documents and their instances.
- When you save a personal view, the application does the following:
- Saves the state of Web Intelligence report. (In whatever state you left the report before saving the view, the same state is maintained when you access the personal view.)
- Saves the history of server actions that you
performed on the report before saving the personal view.On a personal view, you can perform all those server actions that you performed before saving the view. For example, if you drilled down in the report's charts or tables and applied filters, you can do the same actions after opening the personal view (even in offline mode of working).Note If the report has REL (report element linking), the application also records the sequence in which you have filtered data in the linked report parts. You can only use REL in the same sequence of linking.
- Irrespective of whether you are in offline or online mode of working, you
can perform only those actions on a saved personal view that you did before
saving it.
- For example, if you drilled down in report parts, but did not drill up, you cannot drill up in the personal view.
- If the report has hierarchical tables, but you did not perform an expand or collapse on the nodes, you cannot expand or collapse nodes in the personal view.
Note For a personal view, the application does not record the actions that are independent of server interaction (such as sort, re-order or freeze in tables). User can perform these actions in personal views anytime and in any order. - The maximum number of personal views that you can save on device depends on
the value of Personal View Storage setting that you
specify in Application Settings->
Additional Settings. Note If you specify 'None' as the personal view storage limit, you can save unlimited number of the personal views on your device.
How do I sort or wrap column data in a table?
- To sort the data in a column in ascending order, double tap the column header (or row header in a horizontal table) and choose Sort Ascending.
- To sort the data in a column in descending order, double tap the column header and choose Sort Descending.
- To wrap the contents of cells within a column, double tap the column header (or row header in a horizontal table) and choose Wrap.
How do I freeze or hide table rows or columns?
- To freeze a column in a vertical table, double tap the column header, and choose Freeze.
- To freeze a row in a horizontal table, double tap the row header, and choose Freeze.
- To hide a column in a vertical table, double tap the column header and choose Hide.
- To hide a row in a horizontal table, double tap the row header, and choose Hide.
How do I use prompt variants?
To simplify the selection of values each time you open a report, all the parameters that you chose previously are saved as a variant. Thus, every time you refresh the report you can select the variant directly instead of selecting every parameter that you want to view.
- Open the Web Intelligence report.
- Tap on the Refresh icon. Prompts dialog box appears.
- Choose Prompts Variants and select the variant you require from the list of variants that appear.Prompts Summaryin the dialog box is updated automatically.
- Tap on Apply.
