Testing Layouts

Use

You can view the preliminary generated layout of a document template in the preview while you are editing it. For report templates, you can also test the layout in specification management as described below.

Prerequisites

  • You have created a report template with status In work (IW) or Released (RE).

  • You have defined a generation variant and assigned it to the report template.

Procedure

  1. In the hit list , search for and select all specifications for which you want to generate a report for a generation variant, language, and key date.

  2. In the hit list, choose Start of the navigation path Specification Next navigation step Reports Next navigation step Report from Template. End of the navigation path

    The Create Report Using Template dialog box appears.

  3. Enter the generation variant, language, and key date.

  4. Choose with the quick info text Display .

    If you have defined symbols of type Parameter in your report template, the Maintain Parameter Values dialog box appears. Edit the dialog box as follows:

    • Enter the values for the parameter symbols (see Symbol Type: Parameter ).

      If a symbol of the type Parameter is defined within a repeating group of the report template, using the functions with the quick info text Insert Line and Add Line you can insert or append a number of values for parameters.

      If hierarchy data exists for the parameter values, you can use the Hierarchy On/Off function. For more information on this function, see Editing Default Parameter Values and Default Parameter Value Determination .

    • Confirm your entries.

Result

The report is displayed in Microsoft Word. You can print the report if required.
