Required Space

The memory space required for an archiving session largely depends on the infotypes for which the creation of an infotype log was activated in the table Infotypes with Documents (T585A) and how often changes were made.

For archives that are much larger than 100 MB, it can take much longer to reload the archive and to access data from the archive to read. The extent of this delay depends on the system.

Periodicity

The frequency with which archiving is to be performed largely depends on the infotypes for which the creation of an infotype log was activated. You can gain an overview by performing a test run of an archiving session after a defined period, for example, a month. For this, create a variant for which the test option Test Run is set, but for which the test option Detailed Log is not set. After this run has been performed, you can see the number of selected PCL4 data records in the spool list. A data record is about 4 KB in size.

How often Data Destruction takes place depends on the retention rules that you have defined in the application IRM Policies and Rules (transaction IRMPOL) for PA Long-Term Documents.

Archiving Runtime

The archiving runtime also depends on many factors, including the size of the individual objects, the system load, and the actual system. A speed of 50-100 MB per hour can be used as a reference point for archiving and then deleting. However, this is a guide value only.
